The Mobile Training Center is just that, a complete solder training center where a company would not have to setup a training location inside of their company for solder training. This is where quality solder training would be conducted by a certified IPC instructor without any distractions or interruptions from fellow workers or supervisors for eight hours a day.

What is the MTC? It is a 38-foot-long, 8.5-foot-wide and 13.5-foot-high recreational vehicle. Inside it has an 8-foot-high, 30-foot-long and 8-foot-wide classroom. It looks like a regular recreational vehicle from the outside. It has two heaters that vent hot air at students’ feet during the cool months and three AC units to keep them cool during the warm months. The only thing needed to power the MTC is a 50-amp single phase outlet. The location at your facility to setup the MTC needs to be as little to no grade to setup and level the MTC. Upon arrival to your facility it will take approximately 1.5 hours to level and setup. It can accommodate up to ten students. The MTC is outfitted with ten complete soldering stations (ten soldering power units and various soldering iron tips, ten microscopes, ten lighted magnifiers, and ten sets of tools) so the company would not have to use or bring their own equipment or tools. All will be provided onboard the MTC during the solder training. Each station is also provided fume extraction. The MTC is outfitted with an eleventh training station for the IPC certified instructor to conduct training under a high definition camera attached to a microscope. This camera allows students to observe the instructor on five different monitors throughout the MTC and ask questions on what they are seeing in real time. During the instruction phase of the course the monitors, through an onboard WIFI system, are connected to the instructor’s computer where the instructor will define ESD, solder, flux, soldering techniques and the required specifications for each solder fillet through a Power Point presentation.

As the students are practicing the soldering techniques the instructor will walk through observe and correct them on their task. This might include the position of their hand or length of solder from the fingertips. After they have completed their task, students will bring their project to the instructor station and the instructor will critique and point out good solder fillets and bad solder fillets. The instructor will also suggest corrective action to be taken to create a better solder fillet. The students’ goal will be to get the solder fillet right on a single attempt with no touch up or rework.
