Have you ever wondered what your auto insurance agency in Texas actually covers for you? You should take the time to know the details. You can do this by asking the right questions, and making sure you like the answers they give. Consider getting started by asking some or all of these:

"What is your liability?" It's important to understand the concept of auto liability. When you pay your monthly premium, your auto insurance agency in Texas is agreeing to pay for quite a bit in the event of an accident or other covered incident. In our state, the law requires you to have at least $30,000 of coverage for injuries per person, up to a total of $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for property damage. This is called 30/60/25 coverage.

"What is my collision coverage? Do I have comprehensive coverage?" Your collision coverage pays for the lesser of repairs, replacement, or actual cash value of an insured vehicle resulting from a collision with an object or vehicle. Sometimes also called OTC, comprehensive coverage provides coverage to the insured vehicle for non-collision events. This includes theft, vandalism, hail, fire, windstorm, contact with an animal, damage from falling objects, and others. These two types of coverage combined should cover pretty much anything and everything.

"Does my policy cover a rental car?" After a car crash where your vehicle needs to be in the repair shop for a few days, your auto policy can reimburse the incurred expense for a substitute vehicle from a licensed rental car agency. If yours doesn't cover this, ask why. Then decide if you want a policy that does.

"Do I have uninsured motorist coverage?" Sadly, not everyone takes the law and their moral obligation as seriously as they should. Uninsured motorist coverage provides you with protection in cases where the other driver does not have insurance, has too little insurance, or in cases of a hit and run accident. It offers the same limits as liability coverage. Property damage is included in this and typically has a small deductible, which is just a few hundred dollars.

"What is my Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage?" It's very important that you know the details of your policy. PIP provides coverage, regardless of fault, for any necessary medical bills, funeral expenses, and reasonable loss of income after a major accident. There is a limit, which is typically around $2,500, for each covered person per accident. Exactly what your limit is depends on which policy you select and how much you pay in your monthly premium.

"Do I have roadside assistance?" This is not typically standard with all policies, but it is a great add-on. You can get towing assistance, battery service, flat tire assistance, lock-out assistance, and emergency fluid delivery service (like gasoline) simply by calling a toll free number. If you pay a small fee now, you will avoid a much larger bill for a tow truck later on.

These are a few simple questions to get you thinking about the details of your policy. Do you have anything else you'd like to ask?
