The pressing priority today for everyone has to be climate change and building a sustainable future. Today, many real estate developers aim to gain the status of being green builders. In effect, sustainable real estate is grabbing attention worldwide. However, we don’t have to venture too far from home to realise that one of our own real estate brands has taken an initiative that gives priority to sustainable urbanization. Mahindra Lifespaces’ #IAMGREENARMY initiative addresses the need of the hour and takes a channelized approach towards creating a portfolio of eco-friendly buildings.

It was a movement launched back in 2014 to educate people and communities, including young children, on sustainable living habits and choices. The initiative encouraged everyone to spread the message and create awareness about sustainable development among their family, friends, and other communities. Till today, the Green Army has reached over 250 schools, 50,000 students, and 200,000 citizens across India. In fact, this year it has managed to educate and create awareness on sustainable living among 20,000 students in over 100 schools and 80,000 citizens across the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Gurugram.

The movement for a sustainable future by Mahindra Lifespaces includes increasing urban biodiversity and helping all the communities adapt to the effects of climate change. Those associated with the Green Army are said to play a major role in the mitigation of climate change, improving the air quality, and also help with better soil water retention. Progressing with this aim in mind, Mahindra Lifespaces has come with their sustainability policy which includes the following four pillars:

  • 1. Sustainable Products

  • 2. Sustainable Sites

  • 3. Sustainable Offices

  • 4. Sustainable Communities

The entire sustainable product portfolio of Mahindra Lifespaces is 100% green certified and the salient features of their green products include:

    • Universal design for accessibility
    • Rainwater harvesting and recycling of water
    • Reducing energy consumption
    • Waste segregation
    • Use of solar energy

Along with the sustainable products, i.e. the eco-friendly, green-certified buildings and its features, the green architecture or green design approach towards every project enables sustainable living and efficient use of resources. These practices have helped them achieve up to 25% savings on electricity and up to 30% savings on water.

Currently, the green product portfolio of Mahindra Lifespaces includes their mid-premium residential projects, Happinest series, and the integrated township of Mahindra World City. The most recent additions to their green-certified projects are Mahindra Centralis, Mahindra Roots, and Mahindra Happinest Palghar.

The green design approach of Mahindra Lifespaces hopes to minimise any harmful effects on the environment by building and creating energy-efficient homes. If you wish to know more about the #IAMGREENARMY initiative or want to explore their sustainable projects.

Mahindra Lifespaces have committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for upcoming growth and are now looking to intensify their goals and initiatives for sustainable living through ‘Sustainability 2.0’ journey. These initiatives aim to achieve sustainable development goals, adopt science based targets across the value chain, and achieve zero waste to landfill for the sites, all in the effort to create cities that are future ready!
