Lift installation platforms might be regarded as one of the safest ways to access a too high area temporarily. However, there can be quite a few risks, and workers as well as employers have to be careful about avoiding these during an ongoing construction, renovation or maintenance work. Know about some of the top risks that you should avoid when you are using Platform for Lift installation.

Electrocution

It is important to ensure that operatives on these platforms are standing at a safe distance from every AC outlet. This is because they are always at a risk of being electrocuted. Other than this, people working over a lifting equipment should also be far away from power lines, if any, especially those that have high voltages passing through them.

Slippage

It is quite common for workers to slip from these platforms, either due to working for long hours, or accidental slipping of feet or some object falling on them from high above. It is a good idea to have one more person accompanying the worker, so that he can keep a watch and ensure that there is no fall.

Trapping

Workers get trapped mostly over the guardrail, because of moving too near to an obstacle lying overhead. They can also get trapped over the controls of the machine, which may lead to cutting out of the controls and make it tougher to lower and rescue the lift. During lifting and material handling, special care must be taken and all the important safety practices recommended by OSHA have to be followed.

Falls are quite common in the construction, cleaning and maintenance industries, and it is often that workers fall down from a great height to the ground below, falling to their death or at least suffering permanent injuries or even disabilities. Read and find out about the various kinds of fall arrester equipment that have to be set up in place.

Steel beams

This is a type of anti-crushing system which is fitted to elevated operating platforms, like cherry pickers, boom lifts and scissor lifts. These are very useful in keeping workers safe when they work at a high elevation above the ground.

Protective bars

These extend above a worker’s height, and can bear the full impact in case the lift gets banged to any hazard overhead. These can also come in the shape of cages, and are very useful in preventing crushing or trapping accidents for operators. It is important for workers to wear harnesses with Safety Lock, so that the impact does not toss them out of the platform.

Overhead protection systems

This is very useful while working at a height and while using a false car elevator. As the name indicates, these can keep workers completely safe as they work very high above the ground. These systems are designed and developed to help improve operational safety for workers. This kind of system has been specifically created to help workers keep their lives and limbs safe from accidents like crushing, trapping or toppling due to falling of objects from high above.
