Why do Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha?
Posted: Jul 15, 2020
God created man for His worship. The only purpose of human life is to worship God. In the Qur'an, Allah explains the purpose of man's creation:???????????????????????????????????????????????????? I have not created the jinn and mankind except for My worship. (Surat ad-Dhariyat, verse 56)
There are different types of worship. Some acts of worship are bodily, some acts of worship are verbal and some acts of worship are financial. One of the financial acts of worship is sacrifice. A sacrifice is a great act of worship. This is the best way to get closer to God.
Ever since man settled in this world, the blessed tradition of sacrifice has been going on. Allah has made this clear in the Qur'an in this way. Allah says??????????????????????????????????? We have ordained a sacrifice for every nation. (Surat al-Hajj, verse 34)
The first sacrifice was made by Habeel and Qabeel, the sons of our father Adam. We find evidence of this in the Qur'an as well. Allah said:???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????(O Muhammad) Tell them the story of the two sons of Adam (peace be upon him). When they both sacrificed. The sacrifice of one of them was accepted and the other was not accepted (Surat al-Ma'ida, verse 27).
After Hazrat Adam (PBUH) came the time of Hazrat Ibrahim (PBUH) and Allah put this Prophet to many trials. When Hazrat Ibrahim (PBUH) called his people to Tawheed, the whole nation turned against him. Even his father left him. He threatened to stone you to death if you did not desist. Abraham (peace be upon him) endured his father's opposition with a smile.
Abraham was blessed with children in his old age. Abraham named his son Ishmael. Then Allah commanded them to leave your wife and your child in a barren and desolate area. He obeyed God's command and left his wife and child in the barren land.
When Ishmael was young, Allah commanded him in a dream to slaughter his son. Abraham (peace be upon him) also obeyed this command of Allah. Abraham stabbed his son in the neck. But God did not allow that to happen. Rather, Allah sent a sheep to the earth through an angel. He was slaughtered in place of Ishmael.
Allah liked this deed of yours so much that Allah made this deed of yours a Sunnah for the whole world. In order to revive this tradition of Hazrat Ibrahim (as), Muslims slaughter animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. This day of Eid-ul-Adha is also a day of happiness for Muslims. And for Muslims to revive the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (as) Is also the day.
