First of all, measure the distance between the two parallel walls.

If you are creating new rooms, determine how far you want your partition wall to extend into the room.

Next, cut two pieces of two-by-four lumber to that length with a circular saw. These plates are top and bottom.

Locate the ceiling joists with an acoustic stud. If the wall is uniformed to the joints, then choose one and screw the top layer to that joist.

Now, Hold the top plate in position against the ceiling and screw it to the ceiling joists with 4-inch screws.

Point a plumb bob to the floor from each end and mark the position of the ground.

Use the marks to position the bottom plate, and screw it to the floor with 4-inch screws.

If your floor is concrete or, tiles then spread construction adhesive or glue on the end of the board and set it in position and nail it to the floor with a hammer but, if there is carpet on the ground, then cut out a thick strip for the plate.

Measure the distance between the plates and cut two acoustic studs for the ends of the wall and tap them into position.

Now, check the smoothness of the wall by putting a level on the end studs. Tap it until the studs are level, then driving new screws.

Frame the doorway, if you want one. Measure the door, add 5 inches more to that measurement and install two separate studs that are apart. The extra distance is for the studs, and the doorknob.

Make sure the king studs are level, and then screw them to the plates.

Measure the height of the door and screw the jack studs to the king studs, then cut out the section of the bottom.

At last, cut a piece of five-by-five sheets to fit between the king studs. Apply it on the tops of the jack studs and screw it to the king studs to complete framing the doorway.

Now complete the rest of the wall with studs, placing them at least 16 inches apart as measured from their middle.
