Understanding How Dissolved Air Flotation Works
Posted: Aug 10, 2020
When looking to treat wastewater, many companies opt for Dissolved Air Flotation, which is commonly abbreviated as DAF. This is due to it being one of the most hygienic and safe ways of doing so. It’s a process that Aerofloat fully believes in and our company has looked to perfect Dissolved Air Flotation. Years of hard work has resulted in the creation of AeroDAF, which has many patented designs that help create a lower maintenance DAF system that is more reliable. Our AeroDAF system is perfect for businesses in cities as our system can be made smaller than many competitors and can be obtained at a lower cost.
Understanding the foundation of Dissolved Air Flotation
The reason why Dissolved Air Flotation is used by so many companies is due to it utilising a simple and natural process to rid water from what is contaminating it. Wastewater comes into the DAF tank, which it then inserts dissolved air that has been pressurised. This mixture allows for the dissolved air to form millions of tiny bubbles that carry the particles to the top of the tank. Thanks to this scientific process, the water is separated into two different parts: cleaned water at the bottom of the tank and the waste at the very top. Most Dissolved Air Flotation systems use a mechanical scraper to remove that top layer of the sludge away in order for the cleaned water to be retrieved from below.
However, the AeroDAF system is slightly different as it doesn’t use any mechanical arms to scrape the sludge away. This means that less maintenance is needed to keep the system running and efficient. Even though AeroDAF is smaller and takes up less space than our competitors, it is still able to treat a significant amount of water at once. Model Fifty, which is the base system that we offer, is able to treat 3,000 litres of wastewater per hour. Meanwhile, the Model 800 can take care of 50,000 litres per hour. We are able to scale systems to whatever a business requires thanks to them being modular.

Why Dissolved Air Flotation is the ideal choice for most businesses
There are many wastewater treatment solutions (several of which that Aerofloat offers), but DAF has a number of perks that have made it our most popular treatment offering. These advantages include:
- Easy to maintain. Making sure wastewater is treated is often a regulatory demand and the process can be quite expensive and require plenty of time in maintenance. However, AeroDAF’s innovative system allows it to run longer and keep costs low.
- A sealed system. This ensures that everything is without any odour. You won’t have to smell the wastewater and there are no hygiene concerns as well. There’s no worries about a bad smelling business as we eliminate the odours and make sure wastewater doesn’t have a negative impact on the environment.
This is why our innovative AeroDAF system is a favourite among food processing plants, small businesses, and those based in a city where space is limited.
If you’re running a temporary site, a Portable Sewage Treatment Plant might be considered is a mobile worker camp for oil and gas drilling, or a mobile worker camp for a large construction project or gas pipeline.
