Types of Pumps Utilized for Irrigation Purpose

Every gardener or farmer requires the right kind of watering system to ensure that their lawns and plantations always stay green and lush. The humble pump is the device which is most commonly used to supply water to these gardens and farmlands. It is important to design the irrigation system which delivers water with the correct flow and pressure so that all the plants planted near or far from the water source, gets equal amount of water. The irrigation pumps acts the core component of any sprinkler system, whether it is installed at a residential premises or at a commercial venture, the right pump is essential for efficient and economical operation of the whole system.
While choosing a pump for your application, you must keep in mind a number of technical features such as the source of the water supply, the power available, efficiency of the pump and capacity required and the piping configuration. Multistage Pumps – Multistage pumps are built to boost and transfer water for higher pressure irrigation purpose. They are usually of a heavy duty construction and offer a low noise and trouble free operation. Aside from being highly efficient, these pumps have long working life and require very low maintenance. Designed for minimal energy consumption, these devices can be fitted with automatic priming capabilities for additional functionality. Apart from irrigation, they can also be used for general water supply, firefighting, boiler feeds, pressure boosting and many more applications where high water pressures are required.
Centrifugal Pumps – Centrifugal pumps are most suitable for pumping clean water and waste water with small solid impurities for short or long distances. Being ideal for irrigation purposes, they are used to pump water with high flow rates. Centrifugal pumps are economical to manufacture and are affordable for the irrigator. They find application in center pivot, flood, drip, spray and general turf irrigation. The heavy casing wall provides the pump enhanced resistance towards corrosion and abrasion from sand and other environmental conditions. They are useful to pump water in different quantities with a constant flow rate.
The irrigation pumps are the essential component of any sprinkler system installed in an irrigation system. These pumps must be chosen wisely to ensure that water is transferred in the required quantities over the worksite in an economical manner.
