Because it's good

In the summer of 2010, I went to Paris with my boyfriend for a few days. Our hotel was embedded in a large hotel complex. One evening, when the sun was finally preparing to set after a hot August day, we sat on the steps in front of our hotel and watched it. Charlie had organized a bottle of wine and two glasses to put between us. We toasted each other as the sun slowly sank and the light of dusk covered the complex with a soft shimmer. All around there was peaceful silence, occasionally interrupted by the soft chatter of other couples who, like us, had made themselves comfortable.A taxi pulled up and a young woman with long blond hair got out. Something about her appearance irritated me. She wore an elegant trouser suit and high-heeled sandals with lacquered nails sticking out, was very make-up and, above all, didn't seem to know where she was going. With a rather uncertain look she looked around until there was a low call. She turned to the caller and then disappeared in that direction."Yeah, yeah," said Charlie. He smiled. "That was what you're thinking.""Really? She didn'tlook like it at all. " " I saw her yesterday. Charlie refilled me with wine. "I was downstairs yesterday, having a smoke when you were already sleeping. Then she arrived here too. "" To the same guy? ""I do not think so. I'm sure it's booked a lot. "" How do you get that? " I asked amazed.Charlie thought for a moment. "Because it's good," he said then, and I nodded as if that was a revelation. Basically, it was for me too. Such an answer was one of the reasons I loved Charlie. He was completely unprejudiced. It it would never have occurred to him to speak contemptuously or scornfully about a woman who had such a profession. On the contrary: he paid her admiration. We made a few considerations about the stranger: how old she was, whether she came from Paris since when she had been in her job, etc. We only had one certainty about one thing: that she was good.(PCB assembly services) Charlie didn't have to explain that to me in any further detail.

Charlie died two years later of a chronic illness that had troubled him even before the trip to Paris. And two years later my friend Brigitte asked me if I would like to travel to Paris with her."Yes," I said.We ended up in the same hotel complex that I had been to with Charlie. At least I believed that. Or wanted to believe it. One evening I persuaded Brigitte to take me to the steps in front of our hotel sit down and drink a bottle of wine. Like then it was the end of a hot August day and dusk was already falling when a car pulled up. I watched excitedly as a tall blonde stepped out of the taxi. Was it she?"Don't stare at the poor woman like that," said Brigitte into my thoughts. "It must be hard enough for her. If you end up in a job like this..." Brigitte shrugged her shoulders."You have no idea!" I countered vehemently. "She doesn't need your pity.""Ah?""Do you know she gets booked a lot?""Where should I come from? I don't know her... I don't care either. "" Because she's good, "I said in a raised voice. "Yeah, because she's damn good at her job."

And wistfully I watched the blonde go after the blonde as she disappeared on her high heels towards one of the hotels across the street.
