Posted: Sep 03, 2014
The best thing about Apple’s iPhone is that it is one of the most smooth running Smartphones available. The user interface (UI) and the functionality is something that will leave you mesmerized with this product. However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind especially when you are using a mobile device. If you keep hoarding data then one day it will create a clutter and all that you will see is miss-managed mesh of apps that will have you wondering why your iPhone is sluggish. Even though there are things like performance enhancements by iOS 7 but there are some things that you can do to keep your iPhone running smooth.
For mobile devices, you can apply tricks that will help you smoothen out the junk and let you keep your iPhone running mint condition. Given here are a few simple tricks to enhance iDevice performance.
Obsolete Data
Often you go through things that are not required anymore, this means that you should find programs and apps that are no longer in use. There might be dozens of apps that are lying on your iPad or your iPhone but are not used or are older version and need updating. However, if you have not bothered to use them or update them then it is time for them to be erased off your device. If you keep them then it would mean memory and space consumption. For example, that game that you played only once, that app that is no longer suitable, these can be deleted.
Browser Cache
Undoubtedly, you browse a lot on your iDevice and this leads to unwanted accumulation of browser history. This means additional space consumption, now that you know about it you need to get rid of it. Clearing your browser cache is one thing that you immediately need to do. For this purpose, Settings->Safari (or any browser that you are using)->Clear History-> Clear Cookies and Data.
Text Messages
Then there are text messages that you hardly know are populating the storage space. Even though the history of your iMessages is on cloud but you still need to get rid of them. Why, keep old texts that are no longer required. If you know that you do not require old conversations then the best that you can do is delete them. Go to a chat-> tap+ hold Sent message, this will reveal more options, now from the options choose Delete All or Delete. However, with lots of chats piling up you can swipe to left to reveal the hidden Delete button. This would make it easier for you to delete chats instantly.
Auto-updates
It is almost the norm that you often are not able realize that you have enabled auto-update option. An auto-update permission for an app update or any other program is only what adds on load to the storage space on your device. You need to turn it off by going to Settings-> iTunes & App Store, here you will see buttons against each app that can be tuned off for automatic downloads.
GPS
Unaware you might be that there are apps that use your location services that show your current location at a given time. This does seems unnecessary especially when you are not willing to share something yourself. The most essential thing that you need to keep in mind is that of turning off location based services. This is essential for maintaining your privacy and preserving your battery life. This can be managed. Go to Settings->Privacy-> Location Services, here you have the option of turning off the option or turn off location for chosen apps. For example, Maps that require location details can be left on other things like Facebook seems unnecessary and a threat to privacy should be turned off.
These tricks are simple yet effective especially when it comes to managing storage and reducing battery consumption. This requires little effort that goes a long way in helping keeping your iPhone and iPad free from clutter as well.
