Every piece in the puzzle matters. Every industry is made up of numerous parts and departments, and all play an equal role in the functioning of the same. Not just hospitals, many pathology and diagnostic centres are also being started with introducing new technology. The need for lab assistants is higher than ever.

Remuneration: It is a fact that one considers the remuneration of a particular job before jumping in a particular field. The remuneration for a lab technician ranges from 2 lacs to 5 lacs. Also, one shouldn’t forget that this amount increases with years of experience and knowledge in the area. It also depends on the hospital or diagnostic centre you work for. It keeps your future secure.

Diploma or 3-year graduation: Unlike medical courses which take more than 3 years to complete and a lot of tuition fee, you can go into the field either by completing a 2-year diploma degree in MLT or a full-fledged graduate degree B.Sc in MLT for better opportunities and remuneration. The 2 year diploma doesn’t ask for you to sit in an entrance exam. 40% in class 12th is enough to get into a diploma course. Whereas, the admission criteria differ for the B.sc as many colleges and universities conduct an entrance exam and require 50% in class 12th for admission. The scope for growth is higher in the graduation degree.

The further topics covered in the curriculum are patient care, lab technology, infection control, preparation of medical documents (lab tests and results), basics of haemotology, histology, immunology and parasitology. Moreover, suppose you are taking up a lab technician course. In that case, you will also learn about how to manage and dispose of biomedical waste, maintain an inventory with the help of material and supply chain management and most importantly NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) training and quality control.

All these topics are not just taught in a theoretical way but also with the help of practical classes with lab equipment. The ethics involved in the sector will also be taught under this course.
