Why is your Car Losing its Power during Acceleration?
Posted: Oct 08, 2020
During acceleration, the car produces maximum power for delivering the required speed to the engine. But when your car loses its power during acceleration then make sure that something wrong happens in it. Among the several factors, insufficient fuel is the main factor behind the power loss in the car.
On the other hand, the components of the engine and the exhaust system also lose car power during acceleration. The power loss issues in the car are also depending on the engine your car has such as a diesel engine or gasoline engine. Go through the following points to know about the causes behind the power loss issues in your car during acceleration.
Broken air filter
Now the broken air filter is a common problem found in most cars. But do you know that it can also cause power loss issues in your car during acceleration? Yes, it's true. Your car is generating power through the proper mixture of air and fuel. When it comes to air supply, the air filter works the same way as the fuel pump filter the fuel.
The air filter is generally filtering the debris and other things like bugs from the air before it enters into the combustion chamber. When the air filter is broken, it does not supply clean air to the chamber. As a result, the generated power is decreased by the engine during acceleration and unable to perform the required air and fuel mixture.
Damaged fuel injector
When the engine is running, the fuel injectors of the car are generally supplying the right amount of fuel to the combustion chamber. For getting the maximum power, the engine gets the right dose of fuel by car. Due to the damaged fuel injector, the engine is not getting the proper proportion of fuel.
As a result, it unable to deliver the required power and even loses it during acceleration. In general, the fuel injector of the car is controlled by its computer, so when the computer has any issues it can malfunction the fuel injector.
Failed fuel pump
The fuel pump of the car is working with the fuel injector for delivering enough fuel to the combustion chamber when you accelerate. Subsequently, the fuel pumps also regulating the fuel pressure or pump the fuel to the combustion chamber to regulate the fuel pressure.
If the fuel pump is not working properly or failed, then your car loses its power during the acceleration. Otherwise, the damaged fuel pump will provide an inadequate and inconsistent amount of fuel and causes poor engine performance and power loss issues in your car.
Busted ignition coil
The ignition coil of the car is generally equipped for converting the voltage from the battery into the higher voltage for igniting the air and fuel mixture. When the ignition coil is busted, it unable to convert the voltage and not ignited the fuel mixture adequately. Throughout the process, the engine is losing its power when you accelerate.
Neglecting the ignition coil issues of the car can diminish the generated power of your car and make it hard to accelerate. So, fix the ignition coil issues immediately for preventing other damages in the car.
Worn spark plugs
All we know that the spark plug is an important component of the car's internal combustion system which is used for transmitting an electrical signal to the combustion chamber from the ignition coils. When you are accelerating, the worn spark plug is the common cause of power loss in the car.
So, when it is damaged it will put adverse effects on the car and cause power loss in a long run. Eventually, you will notice that the performance of the engine is diminished and does not provide an adequate amount of power.
Clogged exhaust pipe
When the fuel is burnt, the engine of the car gets rid of all the generated exhaust fumes through a component known as the exhaust pipe. If the exhaust pipe of the car is clogged, it unable to get rid of the fumes generated during the combustion and affects the functions of the engine efficiently. When the efficiency of the engine is reduced, it will reduce the power when accelerating and need to fix the pipe immediately by a mechanic.
Conclusion
If your car loses power during acceleration then it proves that the car will not provide the speed you need. As a result, you will experience boring driving and put your life and other people on the road in danger. So, when you notice that your car will be losing its power during acceleration, consult with a reputed mechanic for fixing it as soon as possible.
