Pierre Castan of Swiss nationality was the man who first introduced epoxy resins in 1936. Ten years later, they were offered commercially by the Swiss industry. Today, the use of epoxy has grown, especially in the construction sector and building industry.

They are also used in aircraft and aerospace applications, marine, food industry, racing and automotive, sporting applications, and the military.

What Epoxy Is

The term epoxy refers to an adhesive, plastic, paint, or any other substance created in the form of an epoxide polymer. The word is used as a description for coatings made from two contrasting chemicals known as resin.

The type of materials used in making epoxy resin has contributed significantly to its popularity and demand worldwide because of its uniqueness and efficiency. Epoxy resin has various applications, but it’s mostly used in flooring.

There are various reasons why epoxy floors continue to gain popularity. Examples of such bases include its durability, where it has been proven to last for many years, and its high-performance surface floor can sustain heavy loads.

These floors create a clean and safe environment for inventory purposes and facilitate easy movement and application of equipment found within a warehouse, commercial building, or an industrial site.

The epoxy floors are created through a process known as epoxy-floor-coating. The process involves mixing epoxy resin with a polyamine hardener to form a coating, which is then applied in layers. This strategy makes epoxy floors resistant to stains, abrasion, and chemicals.

The Application Process Carried Out by Epoxy Garage Floor Installers

Epoxy offers an ideal solution to people who want to make their garage floor strong, durable, and tough. By applying this coating, one’s floor becomes waterproof and resistant to impacts that can cause chipping or staining the floor.

The layer also makes the floor smooth and its cleaning easy, and it does this by adhering to the concrete floor.

Why Choose Epoxy Floors?

People choose garage floor epoxy because of its excellent dimensional stability and mechanical properties. When cured properly, epoxy floors will offer good heat and chemical resistance, as well as low shrinkage. The resin material is also efficient for floor repairs due to its property of bonding with dissimilar materials and previously cured materials.

Heat is used in the post-cure processes to improve the dimensional stability, strength, and service temperature of epoxy resins. Experts recommend raising the temperatures to levels that either exceed or match their highest service temperature during the curing procedure. This helps to prevent the epoxy from warping or distorting.

The Pros

  • It’s economical – When compared to other types of flooring systems, epoxy coatings had a lower installation cost-per-square-foot. Although the initial expenditure of epoxy floors is high, its replacement costs when they wear out are much lower.
  • Long-life – Epoxy floors can last from seven to 20 plus years, depending on its application.
  • Customization is easy – This flooring system allows its users to select the precise logos and geometric patterns they want.
  • Damage-resistant – The floors are resistant to hazards like gas, oil, industrial chemicals, cleaners, and transmission fluid.

The Cons

  • Can be slippery – Epoxy floors become slippery when wet if they don’t have non-slip additives.
