How Brands Communicate Using Our Data
Posted: Oct 16, 2020
You must be using many products in your day to day life but have you ever realised how brands are getting smarter day by day and not only understanding but also fulfilling your needs. The secret Lives in the communication of brands, they are not fulfilling your needs but they are creating more needs for you and you are buying those things. We will see how self-revelation gives our data to these brands.
Brands come up with the popular concept of customer survey but this concept is getting obsolete in the digital era. Brands have access to your data and you are knowingly or unknowingly sharing this data with brands.
There is a concept called self revelation where one discloses his ideas, thoughts or opinions unintentionally. We all browse social media, multiple applications and other websites on the internet. How many times you have consciously given permission after reading privacy and cookie policy? I bet most of the people ignore it and that's where to the normal agreement turns into self-revelation agreement.
This gives your data including your habits, likes and dislikes, what it is your preferences regarding a particular product or service and so on. You are sharing this data but you don't have any idea about it because you're simply ignored the policy and given blanket permission. Personal growth should not happen at the cost of losing privacy even through self revelation method.
Brands collect this data and processor it through modern artificial intelligence systems which helps them to you communicate in a way that you will likely to interact and get impressed with it. The whole point is to secure and consciously understand how you are sharing your data and if you are not comfortable with it then you should have the option to stop sharing it.
Big corporations like Google and Facebook have admitted that it is very precious and they use data in order to 'serve' in a better way. However, the latest Netflix documentary Social Dilemma has created scope for doubt on the claims of these giant corporations collecting our data every second.
We want to use the internet and social media for our personal growth but sharing our data without our conscious permission is not acceptable. I request you to you have a brief overview of the permissions given by you to these applications and website which you frequently browse. Self revelation without conscious permission is clear theft and it should not happen at any cost.
Privacy is not just the option but a necessity in today's world where we are not sure about what kind of data we are sharing and are how brands are going to use it. What about the security of the private data stored with them. These questions might not sound serious but the consequences of these questions are dangerous if not handled properly. Always be aware of of the happenings around you and be cautious in the case where you don't have any idea what is going to happen next with your data because ultimately it affects your privacy.
