You Need to Know About Living Green Walls Installation

Living green walls are far more technical than simple plants arranged in pots, and the science behind them creates products that are perfect for supporting the environment while offering companies a realistic alternative to other physical screens and walls. But what kinds of designs, plants, and arrangements can you expect from these kinds of installation?

When Stanley Hart White first proposed the concept of modern-day green walls back in the 1930’s, while he was doing so with a good deal of plant-knowledge behind him (he was, after all a professor of Landscape Architecture at a good Mid-West university), the technology of construction wasn’t up to todays standard. What he did produce with his ‘botanical’ brick design was advanced for the time, he lacked the 21st century array of materials and building methods that allow for the mass-planting of different foliage types. A modern Living Green Walls Installation is often able to present a number of different solutions to the problem of green walls.

Consider, for instance, if your company is looking for external living dividers; you may want to talk to a company who can offer you a range of possibilities. You could consider screens that can be installed on timber frames or powder coated steel posts. You might want structures planted into GRP, timber, aluminum or powder coated steel planter boxes. You could have the option of the planters being fixed to an existing structure using a specialist stainless steel cabling system. The options could be almost endless, and perfect for whatever you have in mind.

If you wanted wall-planter systems that were raised up or affixed to the roof of your building, a good installer would be able to offer you pre-grown and a robust support structure that can be lifted into position together with a bespoke irrigation system. You may want substantial planter boxes that are designed to exist for years outdoors without maintenance that make efficient use of vertical surfaces in inner city spaces, while being an aesthetically pleasing alternative to enhance an existing building or even a newbuild.

But suppose that you wanted to contribute to the environmental repair process without being as obvious as a green wall or vertical planter system. You would expect a credible supply company to be able to offer green roof solutions that maximise the amount of plant area but don’t impact the lines or form of what may be a bespoke building. If you have a building that you don’t want to – or cannot for legal reasons – cover with green walls, then having a green roof fitted makes much more sense. A green roof doesn’t need to be a permanent fixture so it won’t upset planning laws, and is usually only visible from aircraft. But at the same time, a green roof occupies a significant area and thereby contribute strongly to the reduction in carbon dioxide that traps heat and drives global warming.

Furthermore, green roofs can be constructed from a range of different flowers and grasses, so can fit in well with your building type. If you have a two-story building, you may want to select a wildflower matting blanket as it will encourage helpful insects such as bees and the like. However, if you have a significantly taller building, it may be too much of an effort for insects to reach those levels, so you may want to consider a sedum as an alternative.

Sedum is a hardy perennial plant with succulent leaves, fleshy stems, and clusters of, usually, pretty star-shaped flowers. Because it is so lush and hardy, Sedum is ideal for both long-term planting in windy, exposed areas, and because it is dense, is very effective at scrubbing the air of carbon dioxide. While it might not be the prettiest plant to look at – though it is quite sweet – it is ideal for an investment in green roofs.

Many companies are happy to fit either of these planting alternatives to a business premise and maintain them too. Just contact green wall installers UK, and find out what they can do for you. For more details about our services, contact us today!
