For the stamping you plan on, it helps to learn the basics about different Ink Stamps, their inks and their uses. This ensures that you are using the right type of ink for the job - be it paper or the fabric you are going to apply. Here are some important things to look for when selecting the right ink for your custom rubber stamp. Dye-based rubber stamp ink

For most paper, dye-based stamp inks are your best bet. It dries quickly on a permanent basis, and is a good variable ink. Dye-based inks have consistency that is similar to water. These inks are usually not waterproof, so you need to make sure that you do not use any type of water (such as layering) such as pens or paint, as the ink will run into the ink, as well. Because many of these colours are acid free, they fade over time, especially when there is sunlight, so consider which paper or fabric you are going to use in advance.

Pigment ink

Interestingly enough, pigment inks tend to be thicker and richer when compared to colour-based inks such as mayonnaise. Pigment ink colours come in vibrant, bright and usually pads that are spongier in composition. Colour-based, the pigment dries rather than steeping the ink paper, and takes longer to dry when the paper arrives regularly. This ink will not dry on glossy paper, so when using pigment ink on glossy paper, you will need to heat it up using an embossing gun.

Embossing ink

These types of rubber stamps are in ink pads that are colored or clear ink, and are used to seal the gun before heating it. If you don’t use a gun for this type of ink, you can always use an embossing ink, which makes it really easy to embed some details of a stamped image like a Christmas tree light.

Permanent ink

When it comes to permanent ink finishes, picks the brand that is good for a custom rubber stamp. You can also use it on paper, metal, glossy paper, leather, ceramic, glass, transparency and plastic. On a non-porous surface, it only takes 5 minutes to dry, it is archival, and it is also acid free.

Distress ink

Distress ink is very different when it is based on other pads depending on the colour, although it stays wet on the rubber stamp and whatever is stamped longer, allowing you to add water if you wish. Gives the ability to shadow and blend the image using. This ink is great for those who like to play with ink and water, as you can sprinkle a rubber stamp print with a little water, move the paper or cloth around and spread all the colours.
