The central government has extended the filing date from income tax returns to GST returns. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has extended the deadline for filing Gst returns under GSTR-9, GSTR-9A and GSTR-9C by two months to 31 December 2020 for the financial year 2018-19. The board said that earlier the last date for filing these returns was 31 October, but in view of the situation arising due to Corona, now this date is being extended to 31 December 2020.

The board said that the government was getting several recommendations regarding extending the date of filing of GST returns for the financial year 2018-19. Normal operation of the business has not started due to the lockdown and other restrictions imposed due to corona infection. Due to this, the date of filing of returns was being sought and after the recommendation of GST Council, it was decided to extend the date of filing returns.

Increase in the date of income tax return as well In view of the corona transition, the date of income tax return has also been increased. According to the information received from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), now common citizens, who did not have to file an audit report along with their returns, can file their returns for the year 2019-20 by 31 December 2020. The last date for this was fixed on 30 November 2020.

According to the information received from the Union Finance Ministry, now taxpayers whose returns do not have an audit report, they are 31 December. You can file your return by 2020. For taxpayers, whose returns have to be audited, the last date for filing IT returns has been set as 31 January 2021.
