Does science seem complicated and un-understandable? Check these five easy and simple ways to help your children make science their best friend!

Science surrounds us, and is a part of every single thing we do. There is science in cooking, painting, gardening and in anything else that we can think of. It is a wonderful subject to be naturally curious about, and helps children identify, learn and fall in love with. But Science can be quite tricky. If not made interesting, children can lose interest quickly, and may even end up resenting it. The equations and formulae may seem boring, but when taught made relevant and engaging, there is nothing more enjoyable than Science.

Explore and experiment together!

Science is all about the what, why, when and how of everything. The first thing to imbibe into a child, scientific or otherwise is a deep sense of curiosity. Give children lots of time, options to experiment, and ask questions - this is how a natural course for learning takes shape. Remember you don’t have to know the answers yourself. You can always find them together, so you develop a healthy learning partnership. Even if it is seeking answers from the internet or exploring themes on Online learning platform for students there is always something to know and explore.

Encourage hands-on activities:

Any form of recording about what they observe, notice or see is a great idea. Whether they write, draw, save it as a voice note or make a journal - they are setting a tone for a very important scientific skill. Planting a seed, watching it grow and recording its growth, or drawing how tea boils in the kettle are fun and engaging. This makes it easier to teach underlying concepts and logic, since they relate to what is happening better and faster. Various studies and researches have proven that children learn important science and math skills through experiential learning in the formative years of their lives. Collecting data, formulating strategies and solving problems with you facilitating the process is a perfect formula for a little scientist.

Yes, experiments could be messy but they will be worth it!

Immersive Science:

Have you considered turning your kitchen into a science lab? If you haven’t, you should. For at least an hour every week where you can conduct simple experiments with your child. There are tons of Online learning programs for K6 to K12 students, and many of them provide brilliant yet simple home science experiments. Something as simple as frying an egg could teach a child important concepts in physics and chemistry. Drawing a cross section of a flower together could spark an interest in biology, and a hike along your favorite trail could help discover photosynthesis, ecology and the water cycle all on the same day. Science is all encompassing, and all you have to do is get involved in discovering the world together with children.

Science, all around you:

Recognizing science in everyday activities is a fun way to introduce children to the world of curiosity and science. Curious children grow into learners and problem solvers. When science is made relevant, it is more relatable and interesting. Encourage your child to ask questions about things around, and pique their interest.

Why must you switch off your device and sleep?

Because, sleep is important for brain development

How do clothes dry in the sun or a dryer?

When you spread clothes on a line, water evaporates from them leaving it crisp and dry. The dryer acts as a centrifuge throwing water outs it spins making clothes dry.

The applications of science are endless, and possibilities limitless!

STEM hour:

Setting a science time or a physics play date is a wonderful way to constructively spend time and handhold them into the amazing world of science. Science documentaries, online Learning Resources for School students and short educational videos, later discussed at a science club, will show children that science is a process, and we learn every moment as we progress.

You could also connect their favorite activity, story or video game to science. Lego could teach engineering, structure and balance, while baking could hone their fundamentals in physics. Fairy tales are an enjoyable way to learn math, and an art & craft break could stretch beyond creativity into what goes into the making of paint or paper.

Just remember that Science is super easy when you make it interesting and relatable. Let them fearlessly draw conclusions, ask them questions, and help them seek answers. Learning is evolutionary, and a systematic process; with the right investment of time and efforts you will set your child onto a path where they solve problems, and seek answers by themselves. Even sitting and conducting a simple google search with them will help immensely. In no time, not only will you child love science, but it will be an inseparable part of who he or she is!
