Ever since it was released, Demon Slayer has made a mark on the anime industry. It went on to win the Crunchyroll Anime of the Year Award last year and has only grown in popularity ever since. It is hard to recall any anime in the previous two decades that had climbed to worldwide fame in such a short time. But, the most significant moment for the show was when it went on to win FUNimation’ Animation of the Decade Award, surpassing even Attack on Titan and One Punch Man, who were almost sure to win just two years back. The solid story backed by great animation and fight scenes makes Demon Slayer one of a kind. However, with the recent movie release, it has achieved the unparalleled success that even its most die-hard fans were not prepared for.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, in its first three days of release, went on to win a whopping $44 million, making it the highest-grossing box office total of the last weekend (16-18 October) in the entire world. What is even more surprising is that the movie achieved this despite there being restrictions on audience capacity. One can only imagine how successful it would have been to release it before the lockdowns and the restrictions. However, the movie’s success has made it very clear that the show is not just a flavor for the month series, and it is destined for great things.

Now, it would seem obvious that the anime and movie’s success has increased the sales of the manga. But, even in this case, Demon Slayer seems to be an Outlier because, for any anime, it is common to increase the sale of the manga throughout its runs; however, the sale of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba increased after the conclusion of the first season which is unheard of. The movie will be released in 2021 in North America, and since it has done so well in Asia, it appears that it will also have a lot of success in other parts of the world. However, it won’t be possible to predict the total box office collection since every country has different restrictions and regulations on the movie’s theatrical release.

As the show’s source material has already concluded, there are enough arcs for the show to choose from, and it would be enough to create multiple seasons. Demon Slayer has already made a name for itself, and it would not be wrong to expect that it will go on to gain even more popularity in the coming years. The only question that remains is how much success will it have before it concludes? Will it be able to become the best anime of all time? Some people will not like to think about these things, but the show’s success so far is a good indicator that it is destined for greatness.
