The actual cost of owning a car goes beyond the price you once bought it. The reason lies in its maintenance cost and value in the long-term. BMW, being a luxury car, is one of the most expensive car brands to purchase. However, its maintenance cost, at some point, will exceed the actual cost you once purchased it. BMW owners may pay about an average cost of $200 per service. Moreover, yearly maintenance and repair may exceed $1500. BMW's cost of maintenance and repair is gently rooted in it being a luxury car. It serves and makes those big sales by targeting a specific market with a distinct purchasing power. The question may arise, is it worth paying the cost it bears? The answer is, for some, it’s. The reason being the satisfaction delivered; it meets customer expectations by providing a driving experience filled with grandeur, quality, and comfort they once imagined. Yet, for others, it may not bring satisfaction in the long run. The consistent efforts of modification of models make old models lose their value in the long run. According to statistics, BMW is considered one of the most expensive luxury cars. Its costs include purchase cost, maintenance cost, repair cost, depreciation cost and remapping cost.

The Purchase Cost

BMW comes in different series and divisions. Its purchase cost varies according to the series number or division it belongs to. The average cost of Series 2 is in between $30,000 and $50,000. For Series 3, it’s in between $30,000 and $55,000. For series 4, it’s in between $40,000 and $52,000. For series 5, it’s in between $50,000 and $80,000. Furthermore, its invoice price is not equal to the cost the dealer pays to purchase it. There is a hidden mark upon the dealer’s cost that adds on its actual invoice price.

The Repair Cost

The repair cost varies according to the series, parts and services required. For example, the average cost of repair for BMW 3 and BMW 1 series is in between $700 and $750, while for BMW M3 series is in between $850 and $950.

The Remap Cost

The remapping is one of the important cost-bearing features attached to BMW. Remapping improves and upgrades the torque and power of the car. It’s done in stages, and each stage has a different cost attached to it. For example, BMW M140i remap bears an average cost of $750 to $800 for each stage.
