Suspended scaffolding is among the scaffolds that are used widely. These are used for construction work in high-rise buildings or for cleaning up windows in hotels. Suspended scaffolds are defined by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Organization) as adjustable 2-point suspension scaffolds that are suspended by cables or ropes attached to stirrups at the platform’s either end. Find out how to ensure security on safety platforms.

Platform should be well-built

The platforms need to be made out of superior materials, which are able to bear the weight of even a very fat or bulky person. It should always be of such excellent construction as to be secure enough for a worker to stand upon.

Workers should be trained well

Activities that involve usage of hanging scaffold systems do not always have workers trained in safety regulations and precautions that have been specified by the OSHA. Workers have to be made aware of the various occupational hazards involved, particularly of working at great heights over a motorized gondola. The personnel working on it must be trained in health and safety precautions that must be taken.

Anchoring the scaffolding

The scaffold needs to be secured to a very safe and firm structure. The structure needs to be capable of bearing the weight of the scaffold as well as the occupants in it. The use of anchors, Safety Lock etc is a must. Inspections must regularly be carried out by a competent person, in order to determine all possible health and safety risks that exist.

Scaffolding happens to be an important aspect of all the construction projects. These have been in use for the longest possible time, and are commonly required for getting access to high rises at the time of construction. These are required for supporting high loads, whether it comes to bricks, stucco, building materials or more. Know about some of the primary forms of suspended working platform that are used in construction across the globe.

Wooden & Bamboo Scaffolding

Bamboo scaffolding is known for its eco-friendliness, flexibility and strength, and is used in many construction sites. Wooden or Pre-cut lumber were the norm before the more affordable steel scaffolding became the norm.

Systems Scaffolding

The portable work platform mainly includes horizontal and vertical components which are pre-designed and can connect with each other systematically. It is referred to at times as Modular Scaffolding, and can include scaffolding of many varied forms.

Cuplock Scaffolding

These suspended scaffolding systems can create extremely standardized systems which can be effective for scaffolding designs, having repeated patterns. It is made commonly out of galvanized steel.

Mast Climbing Scaffolding

This is just like suspended scaffolding, and can allow a person to climb to different heights. This scaffold, rather than being suspended from wires, may climb up and down on mast structures that are fixed on the ground. Such kind of scaffolding is loved by scaffolders who require supporting bulky loads.

Frame & Brace Scaffolding

It is a very light form of hanging platform that can be quickly erected, and comprises of bases, planks, braces and frames. These are extremely common for commercial and residential applications in Europe and North America.
