Chart Of Tenses

Tense refers to the time. There are three types of tenses.

  1. Present Tense

  2. Past Tense

  3. Future Tense

Present Tense - a tense expressing an action that is currently going on or habitually performed, or a state that currently or generally exists. Example - I play cricket, I don’t play cricket, I have been using my laptop since 2020. Etc..,

Present Tense’ Sentences - There are the following types. (A) Affirmative (B) Negative (C) Interrogative.

  1. Affirmative - something that affirms or asserts; a positive statement or proposition; affirmation. a reply indicating assent, as Yes or I do. a manner or mode that indicates assent: a reply in the affirmative.

Example - I do homework. We drive a car. Etc..,

  1. Negative - A negative sentence (or statement) states that something is not true or incorrect.

Example - I don’t play football., She doesn’t eat., they do not run. Etc..,

(C) Interrogative - An interrogative sentence asks a direct question and is punctuated at the end with a question mark.

Example - Do you drink water? Does she run daily? Do they go to school? Etc..,

Present sub tenses

(i) Present Indefinite/Simple tense (She goes to school.)

(ii) Present Continuous tense (She is going to school.)

(iii) Present Perfect Tense (She has gone to school.)

(iv) Present Perfect Continuous Tense (She has been going to school since 09:00 AM.)

Past Tense - a tense expressing an action that has happened or a state that previously existed. Example - I rode a cycle., I played cricket., She had been teaching for 10 months.,. Etc..,

Past Tense’ Sentences - There are the following types. (A) Affirmative (B) Negative (C) Interrogative.

  1. Affirmative - something that affirms or asserts; a positive statement or proposition; affirmation. a reply indicating assent, as Yes or I do. a manner or mode that indicates assent: a reply in the affirmative.

Example - I did homework. We Drove a car. Etc..,

Example - I didn’t play football., She didn’t eat., They did not run. Etc..,

Pastsub tenses

(i) Past Indefinite/Simple tense (She went to school.)

(ii) Past Continuous tense (She didn't go to school.)

(iii) Past Perfect Tense (She had gone to school.)

(iv) Past Perfect Continuous Tense (She had been going to school since 09:00 AM.)

Future Tense - a tense expressing an action that has not yet happened or a state that does not yet exist. Example - I will be a engineer., She will be a pilot., I will have been going to school since tomorrow. etc..,

Future Tense’ Sentences - There are the following types. (A) Affirmative (B) Negative (C) Interrogative.

  1. Affirmative - something that affirms or asserts; a positive statement or proposition; affirmation. a reply indicating assent, as Yes or I do. a manner or mode that indicates assent: a reply in the affirmative.

Example - I shall do homework. We shall drive a car. Etc..,

  1. Negative - A negative sentence (or statement) states that something is not true or incorrect.

Example - I won’t play football., She won’t eat., They won’t run. Etc..,

(C) Interrogative - An interrogative sentence asks a direct question and is punctuated at the end with a question mark.

Example - Will you drink water? Will she run daily? Will they go to school? Etc..,

Future sub tenses

(i) Future Indefinite/Simple tense (She will go to school.)

(ii) Future Continuous tense (She won’t go to school.)

(iii) Future Perfect Tense (She will have gone to school.)

(iv) Future Perfect Continuous Tense (She will have been going to school since 09:00 AM.)
