Do you often get confused with top and bottom numbers of your BP? If yes, then you will find this article interesting as this will help you understand the science of the numbers. In medical science these top and bottom numbers are called systolic and diastolic and off course, everyone must know about their meaning no matter if you are yourself a patient of higher or lower BP or someone else in your family suffering from this condition.
Systolic BP Number
Blood flows through arteries and reach to all part of body when it is only possible when it is pushed by the heart beats which bring pressure over arteries and this is known as systolic BP.Normal
If you are experiencing systolic BP level below than 120, it means your BP is normal.
Pr-Hypertension
If the systolic BP is between120-140, it means, you are experiencing hypertension or reaching near the hypertension level. Remember that the people who have hypertension can also develop heart related issues.
Hypertension
If your systolic BP has reached at 140 or crossed the number, it means you are experiencing high BP which is also called hypertension.

Diastolic Blood Pressure Number
Between beats when hearts takes resting time, it gives pressure in arteries which is referred as diastolic BP number.Normal
Contrary to the top, in bottom your BP should be maintained less than 80 and this is what can be called normal diastolic level of BP.
Hypertensive
If diastolic BP is ranges from 80 to 89, it means you are experiencing per-hypertension which simply means you need to take appropriate measure to bring it at normal before it gets hypertension.
Hypertension
If you the number has reached at 90 or crossed it, again you have come to the critical situation which requires immediate medical attention.
How Blood Pressure Level Is Measured?
Doctors use a BP cuff, which is called spectrophotometer, for testing and measuring blood pressure. Spectrophotometer is a very simple tool that is consisted upon a pressure gauge which is attached to the cuff that is wrapped around arm.
The test can be conducted by a trained nurse or a doctor who will also be using stethoscope during the test to listen flow of blood through an artery. The cuff wrapped around the arm is overstated due to the pressure. As the cuff depresses, the systolic blood pressure can be stethoscope which sounds something like whooshing noise and as this sound diminishes, it refers diastolic BP.
Remember that both the numbers are given or written in the same sequence every time i.e. first systolic and then diastolic, for example: 120/80.
