Welcome! Whether you have just bought your first Roku streaming player or Roku TV (congrats!) or want to set-up an additional device in your home, some set-up is always required. Here are five tips to customise your Roku streaming player so you can start streaming even quicker!

Add channels

Your Roku device comes packed with entertainment, with thousands of free and paid streaming channels and 150,000 movies and TV episodes to choose from. In the Roku Channel Store, you can discover new channels to add to your home screen. Here is just a snapshot of some you can dig into:

  • Catch-up Channels: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, UKTV Play and more
  • TV Shows and Movies: Netflix, Prime Video, NOW TV, Apple TV, hayu, Google Play, Rakuten TV, Sky Store and more
  • Music: Spotify, Deezer, TIDAL, AccuRadio, TuneIn and more

You can add any of these in a few simple steps:

If you are on your Roku streaming player, go to the Channel Store by pressing the Home button on your Roku remote. Then scroll up or down and select Streaming Channels to open the Channel Store.

At the top of the Channel Store is a list of featured, new and popular categories to explore. When you find one you like press OK button to see more details. Then select Add Channel to add the channel to your Roku streaming player.

If you are not on your Roku streaming player, you can add channels by using a web browser on your phone, laptop or tablet. Go to the Roku Channel Store to browse or search for channels, then simply press + Add Channel and you’re done.

Your new channels will be added to the bottom of the list of channels on your home screen

2. Moving Channels

The home screen of your Roku streaming player is completely customisable. To move channels to a new location on your Home screen, hover over a channel on your home screen and press the Star button on your remote to open the options menu. Select Move Channel and then use the directional pad to put it in a location of your choice. Press the OK button on your remote when you are satisfied with the new location.

3. Theme

But wait, there is more! You can also change the look and feel of your home screen by changing the theme. From the colour and styles of the menus to the image that appears in the background, a theme defines the overall look of the Roku interface. Several themes are included with your Roku streaming player, while others may be downloaded from the Roku Channel Store.

To change the theme on your Roku streaming player, go to the Settings menu. Then select Themes to open the Themes menu and select My themes. Once you find one you like, press the OK button to apply it.

You can find more themes in the Roku Channel Store under the Themes category.

4. Custom screensaver

Have you seen our City Stroll: Movie Magic screen saver yet? It contains a lot of movie and TV show references, such as Doctor Who, Mary Poppins, Singing in the Rain and many others. If Easter eggs are not your cup of tea, there are more screensavers available in the Roku Channel Store. Just go to the Screensavers in the Roku Channel Store to find one that suits you. To use your downloaded screensaver, go to Settings -> Screensaver.

5.Parental control

With a wide variety of channels on Roku, you might want to keep the ability to add channels away from children in the household.

Happy Streaming
