Are Tummy Tucks Dangerous for Any Age?

Tummy Tucks or Abdominoplasty surgeries are one of the most technical cosmetic surgery procedures. They require extreme precision and a high standard of patient care. They also benefit certain people more than others:

  • Women who have had multiple pregnancies and, therefore, have excess fat and sagging skin.
  • Anyone who has undergone liposuction (aka targeted fat removal) and now has excess skin on the abdomen.
  • Anyone who has undergone massive weight loss of 30kg or more.
  • A woman whose pregnancies have caused divarication of the recti muscles. -Someone of advanced age.

And the last point is what we want to discuss today.

What makes older people benefit more from tummy tucks?

Our skin tends to lose its elasticity with age. You see this first on your face with wrinkles forming, indicating that your skin is no longer as taut over your facial muscles. This then happens all over your body.

So your abdomen is no exception.

If you lose a massive amount of weight on your abdomen, there is no guarantee that your skin will tighten on it again. Instead, even if you lose weight for a slimmer look, the skin may continue sagging. This completely defeats the purpose of losing weight. You do not get the slimmer look you covet.

Abdominoplasty counters this sagging skin, removing it, so you get the body you desire. However, this often raises additional questions. After all, with age, your body also gets weaker. Doesn't that make the procedure more dangerous?

Are tummy tucks dangerous at any age?

No. They are not.

What you need to remember is that age is just a number. While it is true that the older you get, the more you need to focus on your health, this does not make the youth automatically healthy. They may have to do less work to be healthy, but that's all.

Operating on a healthy 40-year-old will always produce better results and be much safer than operating on an unhealthy, overweight, 25-year-old smoker. In the latter, there are too many factors that could make the procedure go haywire and affect the final results.

Therefore, as long as you take good care of yourself and your health, you are as eligible for a tummy tuck as anyone else.

The procedure is not more dangerous, and you are still guaranteed excellent results. You deserve to be happy in your body, and your age should not hold you back from getting this happiness.

Bonus Side-Effect: Less Trauma A significant development in Abdominoplasty, especially when combined with liposuction for a more natural look, is the great reduction of trauma.

Modern techniques and technology allow for a much quicker recovery. Combining the use of MicroAire and VASER liposuction tools with an advanced technique like suture plication, you get excellent results.

Additionally, your surgeon may even give you a more potent anaesthetic to aid recovery and soothe any post-op discomfort! Such measures ensure that your Abdominoplasty remains utterly safe so you can get it worry-free!
