For many years, people simply assumed that kids' writing wasn't worth publishing. However, the truth of the matter is that lots of kids are great authors who have interesting stories to tell. The problem is that most kids and their parents don't know a lot about young author publishing. Fortunately, there are some tips that can help them be successful as writers.

Self Publishing

Some young writers have trouble finding a traditional book publisher who is willing to publish their books. In this case, kids do have another option. They can self publish their books. This can be quite expensive, but it is one quick way to make sure the book gets published. The kids can then decide how to market their books and where to sell them. Some local bookstores will allow kids to sell their books in the stores, or kids can set up their own websites to sell their books.

E-book Options

Another idea that is hot right now is for young writers to skip the traditional publishing houses and write e-books instead. They can sell their finished e-books on a variety of online platforms or even create their own websites to sell their e-books. The best part about publishing an e-book is that it can be done quickly, and the young authors can set the price. If the e-book isn't selling a lot of copies for $9.99, then the price can be dropped to entice more customers to buy the e-book. Once writers establish an online audience, the customers will likely buy other e-books the writers choose to publish.

A Literary Agent

If the young author is dead set on being published by a traditional book publisher, one of the only ways to get noticed is to hire a literary agent. A literary agent will know which publishing houses are accepting new book submissions and which ones typically publish the types of books the author writes. Literary agents also know how to make sure a manuscript gets read instead of sitting in a reject pile on an editor's desk for months. Writers need to be aware that a literary agent doesn't work for free, and writers need to understand how much money the literary agent will get when the book sells.

Lots of Support

The world of young author publishing can be stressful. Most young writers need a lot of support as they write their books, edit them and submit them for publication. They need to be reminded how talented they are and to keep trying.

It can be tough for any writer to get published. It is no easier for a young writer to get published, and the young writer may have to keep trying several times.
