Last year, T-Mobile US announced its plan to reacquire the prepaid network MetroPCS. This means that the MetroPCS’s and iPhone is not a far-fetched dream after all. As much as this is not an imminent move, MetroPCS customers have a reason to rejoice as T-Mobile has shown a huge interest in merging iPhone with MetroPCS. However, the outstanding challenge is establishing how to make it affordable and fair for most customers of MetroPCS who operate on a strict budget and more so, those MetroPCS customers who find it difficult to afford sufficient credit to qualify for the financing of the device.

By the time T-Mobile was merging with MetroPCS, the latter had almost 10 million customers. MetroPCS runs as an independent brand built on the network of T-Mobile in a wide range of markets. In addition, T-Mobile has reclaimed significant portions that belonged to MetroPCS’s spectrum to improve the entire network of T-Mobile.

How Will the Subscribers of MetroPCS benefit from the Merger?

A good number of old MetroPCS customers have been conveniently shifted to the T-Mobile network. This number has been estimated to be 40%, which is an equivalent of roughly 3.5 million subscribers. As such, plans are underway to shut down the older MetroPCS later this year. MetroPCS customers should not feel stranded as T-Mobile network promises to provide better services. This merger was finalized in May last year and there are plans to shut down the former MetroPCS network (CDMA) in 2015. In addition, subscribers should expect the following:

• Faster and improved speed because the 1.8 Mb/s is not really impressive
• Improved 4G networks, which means that their users will enjoy not only clearer voice calls but also better video streaming on HD.
• Improved frequency bands for network users

Approximately 25% of MetroPCS spectrum that was acquired by T-Mobile earlier this year has already been reutilized for deployment purposes of 4G LTE run by T-Mobile. Since the merger, there have been improved and faster network services. Some of the cities that will face shutdown by the end of this year are Las Vega, Philadelphia and Boston. This should not raise any alarm for the current MetroPCS customers, as the disruption will be minimal.

Besides, with such a smooth transition, it is obvious that there will only be a small percent of existing customers. T-Mobile is confident that by the time of complete shutdown, the remaining customers will have shifted camps from the older version of MetroPCS. Every subscriber is looking for better services and what better way than decamping to the fast and efficient T-Mobile.
