IoT or the internet of things means a network of billions of devices connected through complex mechanisms. Devices such as small electronics, sensors, hubs, or gateways are some of the devices referred to as things. They share data that can be operated without the intervention of a person.

The applications of IoT in the automotive industry are limitless. The IoT has revolutionized the way people interact with their vehicles. This article aims to explore how IoT is changing the automotive industry.

Fleet Management

IoT is more relevant in fleet management. There are indeed huge developments in this field. Modern trucks are increasingly getting newer technologies like integrated location tracking, weight measurements, and many other sensors that make the job of truckers easier.

The huge amount of data is collected through different trucks with such technology and is stored in a cloud where the operator can easily analyze it in a visual format. Some of the many benefits include location monitoring, average fuel consumption in specific areas, and managing routes.

Car Connect

The true application of the IoT is connected cars. While the idea may not be new, it has now started to manifest itself just recently. There are over 250 million cars connected through IoT network called cellular vehicles to everything or CV2X. These networks connect cars with each other and enhance communication. There are four ways in which vehicles can be connected.

  • V2V
  • V2I
  • V2P
  • V2N

V2V protocol connects two vehicles within range and transmits data. The data can be regarding location, dynamics, routes or speed. This can prevent accidents and can be beneficial for rescue services to find their way through the traffic.

Another application is V2I or vehicle to infrastructure. The infrastructure here means the traffic lights, booths or pumps. This will ensure a smooth traffic flow and will prevent long unnecessary queues.

V2P connects pedestrians with the nearby taxis by connecting themselves to the CV2X network. Pedestrians can monitor how many taxis are available at what distance and what is the estimated time of arrival of each one of them based on their distance with the taxis.

The last is the V2N or vehicle maintenance to a network system. It uses intelligent networks to alert the drivers of weather or conditions on the road. The system works in collaboration with the security and weather departments of the city.

Maintenance System

This is probably one of the smartest applications of IOT. Different sensors embedded in your cars can collect data on the performance of particular components of a car and share over the cloud. The platform uses a smart algorithm that can predict the behavior of the component based on their performance and provide useful insights on how the component will perform in the future. This is helpful in pre-diagnostics.

Conclusion

IOT has been changing the way the automotive industry works. By providing interaction with the vehicle on a deeper level, it has enabled us to use them more responsibly by automating several tasks that bring efficiency and security on a very fundamental level. Check here for DPF cleaning near me.
