A container is a package which is specially designed with a certain size, it can be used multiple times, it is necessary to simultaneously store and transport the cargo inside it. The philosophy behind containers is to wrap or transport cargo in the same crates and make all vehicles capable of carrying it as a unit, regardless of whether the vehicle is a ship, train, truck or other means. of transport, can transport it quickly, safely and efficiently or, when possible, door to door.

Advantages of using containers :

  • Fast and economical handling of containers, especially during loading and unloading in ports or interfaces.
  • Security against damage and theft is better maintained, especially for small or valuable items.
  • Efficient, because a lane of 12 people can carry out loading and unloading activities for container ships within 3 or 4 days. If 100 people do the same thing, it will take 3 or 4 weeks.
  • The packaging of the goods must not be too sturdy, because stacking can be limited to the depth of the container.
  • It can be used for door to door transportation.

Leaks using containers

  • Container ships are expensive (more expensive than normal cargo ships).
  • The number of containers must be three times the number of containers on board. A group to upload and a group to download.
  • There must be a special terminal for loading and unloading containers and must use special equipment for transport and stacking.
  • Existing roads must be adapted for container transport.
  • There may be an imbalance in trade between countries if a country does not have sufficient stocks of containers.

Types of containers :

  • Dry cargo container,

This type of container is used for the transport of General Cargo (general cargo) which consists of various types of dry goods and has been packed in Commodity Packing or in bulk which does not require special handling or handling.

  • Refrigerator container,

This type of container is used for the transport of goods that need to be shipped frozen, such as fresh fish, animal meat and fruit.

  • Bulk container,

This type of container is used for the transportation of bulk cargo (Bulk Cargo) such as rice, bulk grain, the construction does not use a normal door but through a door on the bottom to unload the bulk, the front is raised and the door or the small opening is opened so that the load comes out. Upon loading, the goods are conveyed through the openings on the roof of the containers.

  • Side container open,

The doors of these containers are placed on the sides, extending for the entire length of the containers, not being a door like the other types but only a sheet to protect the load from atmospheric agents.

  • Soft Top Container,

This container opens at the top where the cargo is placed into the container and taken for unloading. The top is usually covered with a tarp to protect the load from the elements. Cargo shipped in soft-top containers can consist of small and heavy objects, such as electric generators.

This is why shipping using a container has so many advantages and with this shipping model it can make the process faster and thanks to the large container capacity so that the goods we send can have more goods.
