Elevator car parking systems for india’s parking problems
Posted: Feb 22, 2021
Traffic on the roads and insufficient parking space have been areas of concern in most Indian cities for some years now. With rising urban incomes, easy finance and affordable cars launching in the market, almost every middle-class family owns a car. The more affluent own 2 or more cars - all adding to the exponential rise in vehicular population.
Shortage of parking space and the Indian preference for parking on roads results in narrower lanes, hindering the flow of traffic and making it impossible for public transport.
Elevator car parking systems
Multi-level car parking system (MLCPS) offers a sound solution for India's parking problems. These automated parking systems offer a safe, easy-to-use and efficient alternative for drivers and property owners.
Elevator car parking offers a variety of benefits. These include:
Land savings
Automated car parking systems help you save a substantial amount of land.As they are constructed vertically, they occupy a much smaller footprint.
Besides, the ability to park cars door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper allows these multilevel car parking systems to use even lesser space. There is noneed for stairwells, ramps, elevators so that saves space further.
Environmental savings
Automatic car parking systems mean lower car emissions and reduced fuel consumption. Cars are turned off as soon as they enter the parking bay - there is no need to idle for long periods or drive up and down ramps.
Safety & security
In an automated car parking system, the driver simply drops off the vehicle at a convenient, well-litdrive-in cabin or zone. The car hydraulic elevator carries the vehicle safely to the vacant parking spot. When returning, the driver waits in the safe, pick-up zone until the car is retrieved and delivered.
Even the car is safer in an automated multilevel system. With no pedestrians, bad drivers/valets and inattentive parking attendants, there is no risk of dents, scrapes and such damage.
Low running &maintenance costs
Given the advanced technology being used for parking systems, most multilevel car parking systems have a life span of 20+ years. Operating costs are low, and they require little maintenance. A good AMC that offers regular servicing can even increase the life of the system.
How automatic car parking works
- The outer door of the parking facility will open automatically by identifying the vehicle via an automated identification system such as transponder or RFID. The system identifies the car and allows the transfer area door to open. The driver drives into the transfer area. He may need to position the vehicle as per directions.
- The driver exits the car and leaves the transfer cabin. Once he is safely clear of the area, and has confirmed by pressing 'enter' on the control screen, the transfer area door closes. The car elevator lifts the car to the level with vacant parking space. Here, pallets transferthe car laterally to the designated space for storage.
- To retrieve the vehicle, the driver will swipe an ID card of some kind. The car will be retrieved from its place, transferred laterally to the car elevator, and brought down. Once safely positioned in the transfer area, the transfer area door will open to allow the driver to get inside his car and drive out.
