Depending upon the ingredients that are used to make cookies, they can be soft, crispy, or cakey. It is just about moistness. In simple words, cookies that are made with plenty of butter, egg yolks, or brown sugar are softer. The reason is that these ingredients incorporate moistness in the cookies and hold it for a long time even after baking.

However, a biscotti cookie or shortbread, will not at any point be soft due to the fact that they don’t contain any moistness-holding ingredients. Normally, cookies become hard with time because they begin to dry out, and it starts after you take them out of the oven. The remaining moisture in the cookies after baking is continuously evaporating. Simultaneously, the starches and sugars begin to harden.

However, apart from keeping your cookies soft and fresh, you will also need a multideck display if you’re going to start a bakery or café. It will display your baked items as well as keep them in ideal conditions, so they don’t become hard. Moreover, here are a few tips you should follow to keep your cookies soft and fresh after baking:

1. Try to Keep Your Cookies with Bread:

This tip is very useful and reliable to keep cookies soft and fresh after baking. You will need a slice of bread when storing your freshly baked cookies. While storing the cookies in a jar or Ziplock bag, add a full or half slice of any bread you have at home prior to sealing them up. The cookies will generally take some moistness from the slice of bread. Consequently, it will keep them soft and fresh.

However, ensure that you don't overdo it because an excessive amount of bread will in fact make your cookies mush. Furthermore, don’t pick any flavored bread otherwise it will transfer its flavor to your cookies.

2. Under-bake the Cookies to Keep them Soft After Baking:

Another great approach to keep your cookies soft and fresh after baking is not to overbake them. You need to under-bake the cookies. Sometimes, you put your cookies into the oven and forget about them, so unintentionally you bake them for a long time. Consequently, they will become crunchy and hard rather than chewy and soft. So, it is suggested to take your cookies out of the oven at least one or two minutes earlier. When they become sufficiently cool to transfer, keep them in an airtight or Ziplock bag. Subsequently, they will remain soft and fresh for longer.

3. Scoop the Cookie Dough in the Form of Mounds:

When you are scooping the cookie dough on a baking tray, try to scoop the dough in form of mounds rather than flat. After baking, they will have a soft center because of the presence of thicker dough. Thus, doing this will keep your cookies soft and fresh after baking.

4. Replace the Regular Syrup with Corn Syrup:

Corn syrup is such a blessing for those who love baking and experimenting with different baking dishes. It is also known as invert sugar, which means it exists as fluid at room temperature. It is very helpful in keeping your cookies soft after baking. You simply need to add a tablespoon of corn syrup into your cookie recipe. You will get cookies crispy from the edges and soft from the inside. Moreover, due to the presence of corn syrup the cookies will remain soft for more time.

5. Always Keep Them in An Airtight Jar:

This is a very useful tip to keep cookies soft and fresh. Regardless of whether you are keeping the cookies in a Ziplock bag or a glass jar, they must be totally air-tight. Keep in mind, air will just draw out any moistness in the cookies and will make them hard if not stored properly.
