A lot of workshops, handling precision grinding work, will rely on the equipment to hold the job tightly, to achieve accuracy of the grinding work. The job is held by a vice. Most of us must be familiar with the good old simple vice we would have used at home to hold things while we do some manual grinding or cutting. But then there was no requirement for accuracy. When you are going to handle a professional grinding activity the tolerance limits for the job or the item being ground, are very little. You would want it to be held tightly even when a lot of pressure is applied. Grinding Vice Manufacturers, have to design and create such machines, which offer the accuracy, so that their customers can carry on with their working on the jobs without a worry.

Technical Parameters

The standard design, for grinding vices, is where one jaw is fixed and the other is moving. The ratchet screw or the clamping screw is used to tighten the hold and one has to check that the job is held tightly. The material of construction used in best vices, is usually Alloy steel and the base of the vice has to be quite strong and solid so that the vice does not shake or move. If you are in the market to buy grinding vice, look for the detailed specifications of the vice being offered by various vice manufacturers, the level of accuracy they are committing for the flatness, parallelism and squareness. The material of construction of the vice, if is stainless steel, should be of the appropriate grade, ensure you of longer life, and it should also be free from getting rusted. The lower portion of the vice has to be heavy and sturdy so that it holds firm when high pressure gets applied during the grinding is being carried out on the job held by the vice.

All Types of Vices

Some Grinding Vice Manufacturers might offer a few models, at different ratings or sizes. Besides the standard vices in the conventional designs, there are also the magnetic vices and sine vices. However, if your requirements are specific and the standard range doesn’t immediately suit your needs, you could check with the manufacturer if they can design and deliver one for you. The cost could be higher, because of the fact that special molds might have to be made for casting the blocks. Ultimately, any engineering workshop accessory has to be very reliable, accurate and production oriented.
