Google officially launched its ‘more results’ button. That means that instead of clicking on the 'Next' page to load search results, the 'More results' button will show more search results on the same page.

Google’s announcement, which was officially made via Twitter by the tech giant’s CEO Danny Sullivan, had been anticipated as the test had been ongoing for days.

Danny Sullivan’s Twitter announcement

This is what Google’s CEO said on Twitter:

"We’ve launched a new ‘More results’ button that makes it easier for and faster to get more results on mobile. Now, additional listings load below the ones already being viewed, rather than the old ‘Next’ button that would load an entirely new page."

The test, which had been going on for several days, was displayed in search results in a limited fashion, but later on,users started seeing the ‘more results’ button more often.

This test means that the ‘more results’ button will load the more organic results on the first page before showing the relevant ads below the results. Sullivanfurther added that this feature would appear for users on all Android and iOS devices.

The implication of this test going forward

Henceforth, the ‘more results’ button implies that when using your mobile device for online search on Google and fail to find the organic results on the first page, you no longer have to worry about loading the "Next" page. That’s because the ‘Next’ page button has been replaced with the ‘More results’ button. All you will be required to do is click this button to see additional search results.

Moreover, the search results and any other ads related to your keywords would also appear on the first page. The difference here is that the extra hassle of loading more pages by clicking the ‘Next’ button has been eliminated.

The test means the following to user experience:

  • When you key in your search keywords, all results will be shown on the same page. This means that you will not be required to click on the next page of the Google search results. Instead, users will only have to click the "more results" icon, and more search results will load below the current results.
  • Google is always a step ahead when it comes to user experience. This test will come as welcome news for the hundreds of millions of people who use Google as their primary search engine. These types of updates serve to improve the functionality of search engines as well as the convenience of users.
