Difference Between Central and State Food License

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is used for Food safety and grant permission to any individual to carry on food business in any parts of India. To start any food business, one should register in FSSAI Portal and get the FSSAI license. The fssai food license registration is specific to a particular location and also term bound. FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is an independent organisation formed under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, by the Indian Government.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), established in 2006, handles all the food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI License is mandatory for all the Food Business Operators in India. The Headquarters of the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is situated in New Delhi.

There are basically two types FSSAI license present in India one is Central FSSAI license and the other one is State FSSAI license.

Central FSSAI license:

Importers, big manufacturers, business operators in the airport, Central Government agencies, etc. can apply for a Central Food License. To obtain a Central fssai food license registration the food businesses should have an annual gross income more than Rs. 20 crores.

In India it is very much compulsory to have a Central Food license for all the large business operators to run their business. According to the rules of FBOs if a business operator has more than one branch of restaurants should apply for a Central Food License, if a wholesaler whose annual gross income is not less than Rs. 30 crores must apply for a Central Food License, the hotels rated 5- star or more should also apply for a Central Food License. Moreover, if a dairy unit containing a capacity to process over 50,000 litres per day must also apply for a Central Food License.

The validity of the Central Food License remains for a tenure of 1-5 years. After the license gets expired the applicants should applied either from Form A or from Form B before 30 days of the expiry of the Food License.

State FSSAI License:

Medium size business operators, manufacturers, distributors etc. can apply for a State Food License Registration. To apply for a State Food License the operators must have a gross income between Rs. 12 lakh- maximum of Rs. 20 crores. Hotels that are rated under 4-star or less, foods proprietary, storages having a capacity of not more than 50,000 metric tonnes yearly and etc. must apply for the State Food License.

The State Food License is valid for a tenure of 5 years with a minimum validity of 1 year.It is advisable to all the food business operators across India to follow all the guidelines of FSSAI
