CE Marking RoHS Directive
Posted: Mar 19, 2021
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) intended to use in household, medical devices, and intended to use for industrial purposes. All these EEE products must comply with all the requirements of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU to comply with the standard and must bear the CE Marking. The RoHS Directive specifies the limits on the use of hazard elements in the devices such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDEs in electrical and electronic equipment.
The term "electrical and electronic equipment’ means the equipment that rely on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields to operate properly with a specified voltage. RoHS is an abbreviation and stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances to ensure the safety of the equipment.
By affixing the CE marking on electrical and electronic devices the manufacturer or importer becomes more cautious about safety and declares that the product comply with essential requirements of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. CE marked products with RoHS Certificate can be traded freely in the European Market within the European Economic Area (EEA).Both, these Certification helps you with:
- 1. Determine the amount of (hazardous) substances in equipment by the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to gain consumer benefit
- 2. RoHS testing directed by RoHS compliance in order to define the amount of (hazardous) substances in the Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE);
- 3. Drafting and assessing Technical Dossier to achieve Certification;
- 4. Verifying and compiling an EU/RoHS Declaration of Conformity stated under RoHS and CE Marking compliance;
- 5. Instructions for affixing the CE marking on electrical and electronic equipment after testing.

- 4. Large-scale stationary industrial tools for purpose of the manufacturing process;
- 5. Large-scale fixed installations Industrial/Households;
- 6. Means of transport excluding electric two-wheel vehicles which are not type-approved for persons or goods;

The RoHS Directive contains the legal obligations for each type of economic operators (manufacturer, importer, and distributor). The following step-by-step plan has been drawn up for the manufacturer.
- Product classification/determination: defining whether the product passes to fall into the scope of the RoHS Directive.
- Economic operator classification: defining the role of an economic operator within the RoHS Directive.
3. Conformity procedure: contains the following parts:
- Perform RoHS measurements of the Product according to the RoHS standards to make hazard-free products;
- Draw up the procedures and plans to ensure the conformity of series of production;
- Provide identification element of the product and the economic operator by technical reports;
- Develop procedures for taking corrective measures (if any required);
- Issue the RoHS statement to the product.
4. Drawing Technical Files: drawing up the Technical Files based conformity of the product that can be assessed.

- EU Declaration of Conformity of CE Marking: drafting the RoHS certificate for acquiring CE Mark affixed, showing that equipment complies with RoHS Directive (and any other CE harmonization legislation) to be marketed in EU Nations;
- CE marking: as soon as the product complies with the RoHS Directive and related RoHS standards, the CE marking will be affixed after the quality and safety assurance of the CE Marking Directives.
