If you are interested in roasting your own coffee, the first thing that must be considered is the scale of coffee roasting that you intend to enter into. Are you simply interested in roasting small amounts of coffee at home? Do you own a coffee shop and feel that by roasting on site you can improve the quality and desirability of your product? Are you an experienced coffee roaster seeking to produce your own blends or branding for commercial distribution? Regardless of the purpose there is coffee roasting equipment available that will meet your needs.

Home Coffee Roasters

This is the domain of the coffee purist. Green unroasted beans of all varieties are available for purchase online, and at some retail outlets. The cheapest coffee roasting equipment that can be used at home is surprisingly a stovetop popcorn popper. It isn’t the best way, or the easiest way, but it will work. Most people just starting out in home roasting will consider electrically powered, air roasting equipment. Small simple air roasters can be purchased for as little as thirty dollars with more popular and more capable air roasters costing several hundreds of dollars. These types of coffee roasters are not suitable for commercial use of any type but are a good way to get started in roasting and even blending your own coffees at home. Drum roasters can be either electrically heated, or gas/propane heated. The drum roaster offers you greater control of the roasting process with some models being suitable for both home use and small commercial operations.

Small Commercial Coffee Roaster Equipment

Perhaps you started roasting coffee at home and have decided that your coffee absolutely demands to be brought to the market place. Maybe you already have a restaurant, coffee shop or bakery that you believe will benefit from a superior crafted product of your own making. If you do own a coffee shop the presence of coffee roasting equipment will undoubtedly differentiate you from your competition. Most of the coffee roasting equipment suitable for this environment will be drum type roasters, preferably programmable for semi-automatic or automatic operation in order to insure the consistency of your product. The costs for suitable roasters at this level can run well over a thousand dollars or more depending on features and capabilities.

Large Scale Commercial Coffee Roaster Equipment

Finally your skill or access to skilled labor has brought you to the point where nothing less than a large scale commercial roaster will do. The coffee roasting equipment you will need for this type of operation will almost certainly be completely automatic and fully programmable. These machines tend to be large and weigh thousands of pounds. They are meant only for coffee roasters who must produce significant amounts of product on a daily basis.
