Debt Collectors Cannot Come to Your Workplace:
Debt collectors are strictly prohibited to come to your workplace for collecting your debts. As a debtor, you are entitled to the rights of privacy for your debts. When the officials of debt collection services coming to your workplace, they are effectively making your debt public. However, the debt collectors can all at your workplace. But they cannot disclose the necessity of calling or why you need to be connected.
Debt Collectors Cannot Harass You:
Debt collection is a formal process that will require them to offer you convenient terms so that you can make the payments. But to make it happen, then cannot harass you. Harassment can come in any form or style which can include the following,
- Repeatedly calling you
- Threatening of violence to get the money back
- Publishing information about you on any forum or platform
- Using abusive and obscene language for collecting the debt
These are illegal and if the debt collector is doing all of these, you can sue them. If you are a creditor company and hiring an agency offering credit collection services, you need to go through the reviews of the agency to find out if they have done such things in the past or not.
Debt Collectors Cannot Arrest You:
Debt collectors are not the legal entity that can release orders for your arrest if you are not paying debts. So, if the debt collector you are dealing with is saying this, they are lying. However, what they can do is they can file litigation against you for failure to pay the debt. If you fail to be present at the court, that will result in your arrest as the court will order so.
Debt Collectors Cannot Call You whenever They Want:
Unlike what you think, debt collectors cannot call you at any time they like. When the debt collectors are calling you asking for a debt, it is necessary that you tell them in clear terms what the convenient time is for calling you. They are supposed to listen to you on this. In fact, they cannot call you before 8 a. m. or after 9 p. m. Also, if you ask them to stop calling you, they must do that immediately.
