The most possible reasons a PC is running slow are:

  • Video card is not according to your necessities• Your CPU is too slow• Not sufficient memory• Your registry requires cleaning up • Your internet connection is very slow • Your computer is infected by a virus• The disk is too much fragmented

You can utilize Windows Task Manager to check memory usage and CPU use. To open the Windows Task Manager, right click on an empty region on the taskbar, and then click on Task Manager. The Performance tab shows the CPU and memory use. Another beneficial tool is the Windows Management Console. To activate it, click on Start, then choose Administrative Tools, then Performance.

Is the Disk too much fragmented?

Utilize standard windows tools to remove unnecessary files, check the disk and the defragmentation if required.

  • To run the Microsoft Windows Disk Cleanup, click on Start, hover on All Programs, hover on Accessories, hover on System Tools, and then click on Disk Cleanup, and follow the instructions. This removes the unnecessary files. You should aim to have at least 15% free space on every disk drive.
  • To open Microsoft Windows Disk Defragmenter, click on Start, hover on All Programs, hover on Accessories, hover on System Tools, and then click on Disk Defragmenter. The defragmenter should at least have 15% free space on the disc to work properly.
  • For information about utilizing Disk Defragmenter, on the action menu in Disk Defragmenter, click on Help.

Is there a virus?

Run a complete system scan. If you are utilizing free antivirus software like Avast, maybe you should buy a better anti-virus program. Personally I utilize Kaspersky, which doesn’t’ appear to slow the PC down as much like others do.

Is the internet connection very slow?

The giveaway here is that surfing the internet, downloading files and emails etc is slow but otherwise your computer is OK. You may also run a speed test to check what speed you are getting. If the speed is very slow, complain to your internet service provider or switch to another provider.

Not sufficient memory?

This is the simplest and generally the most cost-efficient upgrade. Many systems are sold with minimum of RAM, SSD and HDD. If you don’t have sufficient RAM, it is generally quite simple to add more. The RAM is on the small cards that clip into the sockets on the motherboard. The amount you require depends on what operating system you are running, and what you utilize your computer for.

If you want to open multiple tabs in the browser, run email and instant messaging and edit photos, all simultaneously, you will require lots of RAM Stockage et sauvegarde (Storage and backup). The update to the BIOS settings and driver software should be done properly, or else your new video won’t work properly.
