Replace Your Toilet In 7 Easy Steps

Is your toilet seat severely stained, worn out, or broken? Don’t worry—you can fix it. That’s right. You can quickly replace your toilet seat fittings and bumpers by yourself. Going the DIY route will save you time and money because you don’t need to call a plumber.

How do you start? The process can be broken down into seven easy steps. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Find out what’s wrong.

If the toilet seat itself is still okay but some fittings have become loose or just require a replacement, then this should be a quick and easy fix. Danco has universal toilet seat bumpers, which can be good alternatives to replacing the whole seat. They are made of sturdy rubber for durability and strength that keeps your toilet seat in good condition.

2. Get the right supplies.

You will have to remove your existing toilet seat and prepare to install the new one. Make sure you have lubricating oil, a flathead screwdriver, a wrench, tape measure, and pliers. You also need to have a toilet seat kit. If you do not have one, you can get individual fittings and toilet seat bumpers from us at Danco. The bumpers and replacement pads are able to replace lid screw-in, tack, and snap-in bumpers on all makes and models, particularly toilet seats with a smooth surface.

3. Remove the current seat.

Clean the area where the old seat is before removing it. When you’re done, start the removal process from the bolt caps and bolts. Apply the lubricating oil to ease removal, and dispose of the old parts. Clean and sanitize the area once more before you set the new toilet seat fittings.

4. Install the new seat or fittings.

Make sure the hinges are aligned, insert the bolts, and attach the bolt caps. Check that everything is secure in place, not loose.

5. Replace the seat.

Do you need to replace the entire seat? Do some measurements of the old one before you buy a new seat, which should fit perfectly on your toilet bowl. Check the sizes of the screws and bolts to make sure they are correct. Danco carries toilet seat fittings in different sizes to suit your requirements.

6. Install the new seat on the toilet

Make sure that all the bolts are tightly and carefully fixed so they do not loosen up down the line.

7. Clean up!

Whether you have installed an entirely new seat or just new toilet seat bumpers, remember to clean up the debris.
