Three Tips for Hiring the Correct Wedding Musicians
Posted: Apr 01, 2021
Live Music for Weddings
As a busy artist, I often find myself performing at weddings in the UK. They are always lovely occasions. After all, everyone is gathered together to have a wonderful time, and to celebrate 2 people’s love for each other. Live music gets straight to the heart of those emotions. Live wedding musicians brings the whole occasion together and depending on which musicians you hire they can add a touch of class, sophistication, and excitement to the proceedings.
Music has played a vast part in every wedding I’ve had the privilege to play at, whether as a solo artist at the wedding ceremony, entertaining as an acoustic band at the afternoon drinks reception, or swinging the night away in a live band at the evening reception. If you’re planning to get married in 2021, then booking the right wedding musicians is of course an important part of the process.
In my many years of experience, there are 3 key aspects that will help you get the best from your wedding musicians. They make my life easier and I’m sharing them here with you so that they can make your life much easier too!
1 Make Sure to Book the Right Musicians
When it comes to getting the live music right, you need to make sure that you book wedding musicians that will not only complement but enhance the mood of your wedding day. You could book a fantastic Funk and Soul band, but if that style doesn’t suit your guests or capture the atmosphere you are looking for, everything will fall flat on its face.
Take your time to think about the style or theme of your wedding day and talk to a music agency, taking their advice on the right kind of music that will suit you. There are plenty of musicians to choose from with video showreels, repertoires, and previous reviews from brides and grooms.
You may want to book a couple of different groups of wedding musicians. Maybe hire a harpist or a string ensemble for the wedding ceremony, and possibly hire a band for the evening reception. Equally, some groups are flexible enough to manage all the different components of your wedding day, like an acoustic duo or acoustic band that can perform easy listening chilled songs and then more upbeat songs for the evening.
2 Choose the Right Venue
The wedding musicians and the venue you book are going to need to work together, so make sure that if you’re hiring the venue after you have booked the musicians, you take their requirements into account.
It will be worth checking the space to set up, access, dressing room facilities, and power supplies for the musician’s equipment. Also, check to see if your venue has a sound limiter fitted as this will restrict which musicians you hire.
Equally, if you have already booked the venue, have a chat with the agency about the venue and make sure the musicians or band you are interested in is suitable for space.
3 Communicate
It’s important to keep in contact with your musicians once you’ve booked them, don’t be afraid to keep them updated with any changes in timings that are pertinent to your day, and also ask if they have any requirements.
You may find your ideas change frequently, but as long as you keep your wedding musicians in the loop, they’ll be more than happy to accommodate where and when they perform, as long as they know in advance.
I hope you find these tips helpful in finding and hiring your wedding musicians for your special day!
