By seeing our garden full of greenery and fully maintained, we do get a lot of happiness. And why not, as we have worked hard to maintain our garden to look that beautiful. But do you also take care of your gardening tools in the same way you take care of your garden? If not, then start doing it from now onwards, especially if you want them to be in a good condition for a long time. Gardening tools do require proper care and maintenance, else they won’t work in the same way or they may develop rust also. Be it your hand gardening tools like the shovel, rake, spade, or hand trowel or the big gardening tools like two wheeled tractors, gardening shredders, or lawnmowers, they all require maintenance.

We know that gardening tools are not very cheap and that is why investing in them, again and again, is quite frustrating for one. So, it is better to start taking care of them in the right way, so that you do not have to buy them again. Do not worry; if you are not aware of how to take care of gardening tools, as below, we are sharing some tips for the same.

Make proper storage for them

The first thing that you need to do is to make a dedicated place for storing your gardening tools. Be it the small gardening tools or the big gardening machines, they all should be stored in a proper place. Try to store them in a dry and closed place, so that water and dust don’t affect them. If you do not have a closed place, then buy waterproof covers for them. By covering them, you will be able to save them from dust and by developing rust.

Wash, Dry, and Oil

This may look confusing, but this is essential for almost every gardening tool. When you use these gardening tools, they hold a lot of dust and soil particles that is why washing them is a must. Now, don’t leave your gardening tools in the storage just after washing them. Ensure that you dry them up using a cloth or under the sun. Once you are done drying them up, oil these gardening tools. The purpose of washing, drying and oiling the gardening tools is to keep them away from developing rust. Leaving with them soil on them will also make them corroded.

Sharp Edges and blades

Be it the pedestrian flail mower or the wood chipper, you need to ensure that the blades of your gardening tools are sharp. With regular use, the blades lose their sharpness and the gardening tool doesn’t perform well. So, keep a check on the sharpness of the blades from time to time. Or take them for the maintenance of the blades after every few weeks or few months, depending on the usage. When your gardening tools blades will be sharp, they will work properly.

These are the three basic maintenance tips for your garden, which you must follow if you want to keep your gardening tools in the good condition.
