The UK government has recently announced a revised immigration route visa which will commence from 1st July 2021. The route is formulated for students who wish to study in the UK. Students can apply once their degrees finish and they meet the following qualifications:

  1. Financial requirement
  2. English language proficiency
  3. Minimum salary level
  4. Employer’s sponsorship
  5. Labour market test

The students completing their Master degree can live and work in the country for about two years. Those completing their PhDs can reside for up to 3 years.

Eligibility

  1. The eligibility criteria is that the applicant must be a UK graduate with a valid visa (student route or tier 4).
  2. The applicant must not have a previously granted visa under the same.
  3. Approval from the financial sponsor is a necessity.
  4. If the applicant's course is for more than 12 months, then he/she should spend at least 12 months studying in the UK. If the course is less than 12 months, the entire duration must be spent studying inside the UK.
  5. There is no requirement for a job offer to apply to the graduate route. However, if you land a job offer with a stable income, you can further apply for a UK PR Visa for permanent residency.
  6. In order to be eligible for this route, one should enter the country before 21st June 2021.
  7. The applicant is also supposed to return to the UK before the end of the course. Furthermore, if the visa tends to expire, you can apply for another one under the tier 2 general work visa, which requires an employment offer and a stable income. You cannot apply for another graduate route visa if you haven't qualified for the tier 2 visa.
  8. If the applicant is currently based on a tier 4 visa, they must apply for the graduate route visa before their student visa expires. The applicant is supposed to apply inside the country. He/she is supposed to provide all the information with complete identity, security and criminal checks.

Application fee

An application fee of about 700 Euros and an Immigration Health Surcharge payment of about 624 Euros per year should be done at the time of application. Once a visa is granted, the applicant is eligible to do any work. He/she can also study a particular course only if it doesn't come under the Student visa. Or the applicant can switch its visa to a skilled worker visa if it can meet the requirements for the same.

Conclusion

The graduate route visa helps UK immigration to grow and increase day by day as it ensures that students remain in the UK for a much longer period. It also helps the government raise their economy as it gives visa applicants an opportunity to work in the nation and start a living there. The PhD students with the doctorate extension scheme are granted three years of post-study entitlement under the graduate route visa. This visa extends its offers to EU students without settled status in the UK. There is no need for a post-study work visa to reside in the UK.
