How to brake on a longboard?

There are several options for how you can do this:

  1. Jumping off the board on the go is the first thing that comes to mind of a beginner when the speed becomes uncomfortable. The least successful way to stop, total loss of control. Having jumped off the board, you have to run forward at the same speed, and even if you manage not to fall, still not very pleasant sensations may arise in your legs.
  2. Braking with sneakers is the most common way. You need to transfer your weight to the front foot, lower the rear foot to the asphalt, start at the toe and smoothly move to braking with the whole sole. This should be done gradually, without sudden movements. It is advisable to bend the leg standing on the board at the knee. Lower the other leg so as not to catch on the rear wheels. This method works only at low speeds, so you should constantly monitor the speed and, if necessary, slow down from time to time.
  3. Make a slide. This is the best way to slow down, and a successful slide allows you to stop abruptly, unlike previous methods. With the help of slides, you can not only stop, but simply reduce the speed to a comfortable one. But to learn how to do them you need to make an effort. The basic is the Coleman slide, it is better to learn how to do it on solid wheels, it is advisable to have gloves, since one hand is lowered onto the asphalt. The best way to learn more about it is to watch the video on youtube :)
What are spacers?

These are small metal cylinders that are located inside the wheel core, between the bearings. They reduce the load on the bearings during aggressive riding, slides and turns at speed, and support and protect the bearings from the inside. Also, spacers allow you to spin the wheels harder, and at the same time the wheels will spin normally and will not spin on the go. If you choose a longboard for relaxed riding, you don't really need spacers, but they won't be superfluous either

.

What are shock pads?

Very thin rubber pads between the deck and the harnesses. They protect the deck from pressure cracks and also absorb some of the vibrations that are transmitted to the legs. Especially relevant and recommended for drop-thruough decks.

What are risers?

Rubber spacers, 1 / 8-1 / 4 "thick, that can be fitted between the deck and the suspension on topmount decks. They avoid wheelbite (when the wheels rub the deck when cornering), and also absorb some of the vibrations that are transmitted from the asphalt to the feet.

What are bushings?

Rubber bushings located inside the hangers, 2 pcs in each hanger. There are different shapes and rigidity. The softer the bushings, the easier it is to enter turns and tear the board into a slide, the harder the more stable at speed. The stiffness and shape of the bushings are selected according to the weight of the longboarder and the riding style.

What to do when pendants creak?

Unscrew the bolt (kingpin), remove the hanger. Clean the pivot cup in the base of the hanger, that is, the place where the hanger is inserted, put a piece of laundry soap there. Another reason is that dust can accumulate between the hanger and the suspension bushings, especially if the bushings are old and partially worn out. It is necessary to clean everything and correct the situation with laundry soap. The squeak of the suspensions does not affect riding)

Are expensive bearings really better?

The material and precision with which the bearing balls are made affect how they roll and of course the price. Better bearings run faster and longer, last longer, and produce less noise. Expensive bearings are better lubricated, this protects them from corrosion. It is good when the bearings are easy to disassemble and reassemble, then they are easier to wash and lubricate. The fastest and most durable are bearings with ceramic balls.
