Do you know that Moto-Cross was not always run by powerful motorcycles? Bicycle Moto Cross bikes, also known as BMX started out just before the 1980s and became quite popular after that. Riders of BMX bikes were asked to use this small wheeled machine with one gear and do tricks to impress the judges and take home the prize and the title of winner.

BMX bikes sport a small frame with high bars. The wheels are usually 20-inch x 1.75-inch thickness, while serious competitors would prefer the 20-inch x 1-3/7 inch. Whatever the size of the wheel though, there is a preset frame size for this kind of bicycle.

Due to their small frame, bmx bikes are stronger than usual bicycles. With only one gear, it is ideal for those who do not have the time to maintain a fussy bike. Its strength is also ideal for kids as it is also available on children’s bikes with 12 inches, 14 inches, 16 inches, and 18 inches wheel sizes.

Two Sides of BMX Bikes:BMX bikes are very rigid and tough. It is recommended that the other bikes with the same price as the strength of its frame speak in its favor. There is also less maintenance because there are fewer parts and individual components of the bicycle.

On the other hand, it is not made for riding long distances because it lacks the gears which can make travel easier. Also, BMX bikes are only as proficient as its handler. If the rider has weak talents, then chances are the BMX will also be useless, except, of course, for riding not performing tricks on.

Kinds of BMX Bikes: The BMX race bicycle, the original prototype of BMX, was built for the purpose of speeding around a dirt track with humps and obstacles. It was accessorized with frame pads as the measure of protection for the rider as he performs and executes tricks and maneuvers as he jumps and runs along the humps.

BMX Freestyle bicycles follow with its design to perform stunts and moves. The tires are smooth, and there is a mechanism that allows the steering handle to be swiveled to a full circle without ensnaring the cables leading to the brakes.

Freestyle bicycles can still be divided into two divisions. The first one is freestyle ramp bicycles, which have slightly longer frames than flatland bikes. The bicycle ramps are erected in banana shape wherein the biker builds momentum between the two ramps while showing off his aerial tricks one after the other after exiting the ramp. The top of the ramps is called the halfpipe. There is another ramp that is available with a singular ramp that has a long run up, which is called the quarter pipe. The dirt jump BMX bike is similar to the race bicycle. However, this one has ramps made out of mounds to perform tricks on instead of the usual ramps where Freestyle BMX is used, and the rider is then required to cross over the ramps while performing the stunts.

Flatland type of bikes is smaller than the freestyle ramp bicycles. Instead of performing within ramps, these bikes are used to perform successive tricks without the rider’s feet touching the ground. The most well-known trick in flatland bikes is the one wherein the rider moves the bike around one wheel while doing other stunts.
