When it comes to hiring elder care services Alzheimer's or Dementia is considered to be most common factor among them which causes the need for daily living assistance. Dementia is a progressive loss of cognitive function and short term memory. There are many causes of dementia; Alzheimer's being just one of them. Some dementia can be brought on by improper management of medications. Sometimes, alcohol abuse can bring on sudden symptoms of dementia. Some dementia is treatable and reversible while other forms are not. Most seniors with dementia will require a full-time caregiver.

How open are you talking to others?? Or for that matter say to your parents or vice versa. Do your elderly parents share their health concerns with you? Are they resisting being in with anyone's company now days?? It's high time you should consider of taking more time to look after them.

Caring for elderly parents will include maintaining a list of all physicians including any specialist, dentist, or optometrist/ophthalmologist. Include their name, specialty, address, phone and fax number.

Maintaining a complete medication list is very important. Keeping records of any recent x-rays, cat scans, ultrasounds, or other tests would be important. Keep a copy of the test results in a folder and have available for all physician appointments in case the results would be beneficial to share with another physician. But above all this are you able to do it on a regular basis?? Does your work schedule allow you the time you need to give to your loved one with all the above mentioned things? It's not possible every single time ¦Right???

When things are not in your hands and you think that just your help will not be enough to help your elderly recover from illness the next step is most difficult for you and your parents or the older person who needs care and i.e. choosing an home care service.

If you're loved one is suffering from a chronic condition or they need a short term relief in the form of respite care or heart attack care or if you need Alzheimer care for your loved one choosing assisted living is always a best option. You would get the best people at work who expertise in nursing and caring of such patients. An assisted living facility (ALF) is a long-term care option that combines housing facility for people with disabilities. An assisted living facility for seniors includes the daily activities of the individual.

If people don't want to relocate in an assisted living facility then one can always choose to get someone to help them in their house itself. You can even get a person for you to help in your corporate workplace setting. And this also includes long term care. This is called live in care giving. These are agencies which provide home health care services at your doorstep. Daily living assistance is given to your loved one along with them being surrounded with their pets and familiar environment of their house. And with this you could be more relaxed knowing the fact that your loved one is safe in their own home rather than sending them to some other place.

But choosing an assisted living or hiring for live in care should never be just your decision alone. It's important to consider the wish of your elder as how they want to go about it. It can be challenging with people who suffer memory loss as it makes difficult for your loved to understand why he or she needs help. Things you should consider while planning includes-

  • Plan together
  • Stay Positive
  • Visit multiple locations
  • List questions and concerns
  • Ask your loved one's preferences
  • Enlist the help of family members
  • List Questions and Concerns with the home care facility
  • Sample the Food
  • Take Advantage of a Respite
  • Suggest a trial run to your elder
  • Schedule Regular Visitations
