As you know, astrology is not just an art, it is both science and art.Astrology is a science because it is based on evidence of astronomy and mathematics, and an art because it requires constant practice and devotion to master it well. There have been some ancient astrologers who have changed the world due to their impact.

These famous astrologers are wise men who paved way for the development of modern astrology today. They gave their time and devotion to the study of astrology and made a relevant impact in the world. The top famous astrologers are:

1. Maharshi Parashara

Maharshi Parashara is regarded as the father of Vedic astrology. He had been reciting Vedas for over 12 years since he was in his mother’s womb. The sage is one of the most accurate astrologers known to have existed. He acquired knowledge in many disciplines and gave all that knowledge to the world.

Maharshi Parashara composed quite afew texts, the Parashara Samhita and a few others. Of all these texts he had written, the texts written about astrology are the most important. He wrote the BrihatParashara, Hora Shastra and LaghuParasharai. He also wrote one of the most popular systems in astrology known as the Parasari System.

2. Aryabhata

Aryabhata is still well-known for his great skill in mathematics, physics, astronomy as well as astrology. He finished at Nalanda University. His contributions to science cannot be disputed, having formulated the sine table and few sacred ratios which include the ‘pi’.

He described how shadows of Earth and Moon resulted in an Eclipse. He was the first to discover that the planets didn’t shine by themselves but reflected the Sun rays. He laid solid ground for the modern science we know today. We can call him one of the most accurate astrologers.

3. Varamihiria

Vahamihiria is also one of the most famous Vedic astrologers. He studied Aryabhata’s thesis that planets didn’t just shine by themselves but only reflected the Sun’s light. He was able to back up this thesis after much study. He was the first person to understand gravity, the science of attraction upon which the planetary systems are held together. Some of his works include Brihat Samhita andPanchaSiddhanta. One of his works on astrology is Brihat Jataka which is known as one of the five main treatises of horoscopy.

4. Brahmagupta

Brahmagupta lived between 598 CE and 668 CE. His father was also an astrologer. Brahmagupta was the one who defined zero as being nothing and everything at the same time. This laid the basis for the modern numerical system you know today. He has written two texts on astrology namely: Brahma-Supta-Sidhantta in which he introduced the concept of negative numbers and Khadankhadyaka in which he was able to layout ground rules for longitudes.

CONCLUSION

The impact of these famous astrologers cannot be undermined, science is what it is today as a result of their great efforts and dedication. Astrologers are not called upon these days to work out the longitudes of the planets, because these are easily available in modern ephemeris and are a result of the contributions of these famous astrologers.
