Third, there is the board Certified Personal Care Aide license (CPCA). A person who has obtained this type of license may work in a variety of long-term nursing care facilities such as long-term care homes, acute care hospitals, and home health care agencies. A person who is a certified companion to a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or licensed vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) is required to complete an approved clinical training program before becoming a CNA. The course work includes both theory based and clinical instruction that will prepare the CNA to work alongside licensed nurses and other health care professionals in various situations that will involve supervision and interaction with those individuals.
Another type of Home Care service is called personal care services. These type of services involve bathing, feeding, and grooming the patient while they are in the hospital. In most cases, these services are scheduled for the patient's release from the hospital after the patient has been discharged from the hospital. Although most people refer to receiving care in a nursing home or long term care facility as receiving care in a home care environment, home care is actually defined as being the primary mode of transportation for persons who need assistance while living in a certain situation. For instance, someone receiving care in a home care environment may have recently had a stroke and would need to be transported to physical rehabilitation to relearn how to walk again, or may have suffered an accident that requires them to be airlifted home after sustaining serious injuries.
Although there are many different types of Home Care Service that may be needed by different patients, one type that is becoming more common is private duty nursing care services may include the provision of medication dispensing, help dressing wounds, and the provision of oxygen therapy. While this service is usually performed by a certified nursing assistant, it can also be performed by anyone who is trained in providing services needed in a home environment. Private duty nursing care services may include home health care agencies that contract with doctors for the provision of this type of assistance. For some patients, this level of care may be necessary in order to provide the services they require to remain safe and healthy when they leave the hospital setting.
