How To Choose A Good Electric Bike

An electric bike isn’t a good choice for everyone but it can be a good choice for a lot of people if you know what to look for when making a purchase. Some people buy electric powered bicycles to enjoy the freedom of riding a bike to all types of locations without the physical input that a regular bike requires. Others choose them as a cost-effective method of transportation to get where they need to go. One of the advantages of an electric bike as opposed to an electric scooter is that it is considered a bicycle and you can ride it in the bicycle lane. A scooter or moped, on the other hand, cannot be ridden in the bike lane and they often require license, registration and insurance just like a motorcycle or car.

When determining the right type of bike for your needs, these are some things to keep in mind about how it will be used:

  • For fun or commuting
  • Short or long distances
  • Hills or flat terrain
  • Transition from pedal to throttle or solely with the throttle
  • Storage needs

Choosing an electric bike that works best for your needs is what makes one bike the best choice over another. There is no single brand and model that is best for everyone. For instance, if you have to carry your electric bike up three flights of stairs after every use, finding one that is lightweight will be a priority for you.

Buying Online

If you are going to buy an electric bike online, limit your selection to reputable dealers that can offer testimonials from previous customers and which have experience in the electric bike business. If an individual is selling a new or like-new bike for what seems like a reasonable price, there is a reason they have chosen not to keep it. You don’t want to end up being the next in line to be disappointed by a bike that provides a poor performance.

Weight

You don’t have to live upstairs for the weight of a bike to matter. Sometimes things go wrong while you are riding. If you get a flat tire or you lose the charge in your battery, will you be able to push your bike home? Sometimes people use racks on the front of their vehicles so they can take their bikes with them when they travel. If you want to take a bike with you, then a heavier model isn’t going to be the best choice.

Battery Location

Bikes don’t always store the battery in the same area. If the battery is too high, it can make it more difficult to keep balanced and upright. The best choice is one that has the battery in the middle of the frame.

Weight to Power Ratio

The more you weigh, the more power it will take for your bike to transport you. If you are on the heavy end of the scale, you should only buy electric powered bicycles with a high enough power to accommodate you and still provide acceptable performance.

Value

For many people, getting the best bike at the lowest cost determines the best bike. If you only buy electric powered bicycles that fit your lifestyle and have high ratings, you should be happy with the results you get from your bike.
