Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". The importance of education is extremely significant in a child’s life as it lays the foundation for his future.

It is quite accepted that the learning process of a child is important for developing one's personality. The formative years of education for a child start from Early Childhood Education. Before we explain the benefits of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), let us understand what it means

ECCE is the holistic development of a child's social, physical, cognitive and emotional needs to build the foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing. ECCE is the building block to transform an individual into a responsible and capable citizens.

In this post, we are going to discuss some of the important benefits of education for a child

  • Mental Aspect: Education gives them the opportunity to acquire knowledge in various fields like literature, mathematics, geography and other subjects. The varied knowledge on different subjects contributes to the cultivation of an in-depth thought process within a child.
  • Social Aspect: Education is not only about knowledge gathering but it is through education that a child first gets the opportunity to socialise with others. In the formative years of education, a child learns qualities like empathy, friendship, affection, teamwork respect etc which are some of the most important humane qualities in an individual.
  • Holistic Development: A human being should have a strong foundation in every aspect of life be it emotional, social, mental and physical. The formative years of education train a child in these aspects and help one develop these qualities leading to holistic development.
  • Confidence: Education helps one to build self-confidence right from childhood and give them the confidence to freely express their opinion right from the beginning.
  • Resilience: The importance of education is even more now as it helps children to develop resilience as early as possible thereby helping them to cope with difficult challenges in the future.

What is the Responsibility of an Early Learning Educator in ECCE?

  • Safe Environment: An effective and efficient educator should try to provide a safe as well as a healthy environment to the kids. They should keep a proper check on the classroom and learning environment on a regular basis. They should exercise caution that personal hygiene is kept in the learning materials, toys, furniture and equipment.
  • Building a Curriculum: An educator must try and plan high quality and play-based curriculum which shall take care to develop the cognitive, social and emotional development of a child.
  • Facilitate Skills: An educator should try to promote as well as impart social, creative and physical skills. It is the responsibility of the educator to see that the child is properly trained in reading, motor skills, colour recognition etc.
  • Observe: The key to an efficient educator is his/her observation skills. An educator should properly observe the behavioural skills of a child and assist the child if he/she faces any challenge. The educator should also convey it to the parents so that if there is any problem, it can be properly taken care of.
