The boiler is the heart of the manufacturing industry as well as power plant. A complete water treatment programme for a steam boiler will usually include a chemical oxygen scavenger, alkalinity builder and polymer sludge conditioner and, depending on the application, may also incorporate a phosphate treatment and a condensate line treatment.
Selection and function of boiler water treatment chemicals
- Corrosion and scale inhibitor. It can carry out complex physical and chemical reactions on the boiler water under high temperature conditions, can remove the hardness of the water, effectively prevent the formation of scale on the heating surface of the boiler, and prevent the boiler from being corroded.
- Chemical deoxidizer. It can effectively absorb the dissolved oxygen in the boiler water and prevent the corrosion of the boiler from the dissolved oxygen. The chemical reaction produced by it does not harm the boiler. The medicament has a certain energy-saving effect.
- Alkalinity reducing agent for water supply. It can effectively reduce the alkalinity of boiler feed water, increase the concentration of boiler water, and reduce sewage discharge. It is suitable for low-pressure steam boilers with high feedwater alkalinity and low chloride content.
- Steam condensate treatment agent. The agent has strong permeability, can effectively inhibit the corrosion of metals by acid, and prolong the service life of equipment.
About Sodium tripolyphosphate scale inhibitor
Sodium tripolyphosphate has the functions of chelating, suspending, dispersing, peptizing, emulsifying, pH buffering, etc. It can be used as the main auxiliary agent of synthetic detergent, industrial water softener, leather pretanning agent, dyeing auxiliary agent, organic synthesis catalyst, Pharmaceutical industry dispersant and food additives, etc.
Scale inhibitor refers to a class of agents that can disperse insoluble inorganic salts in water, prevent or interfere with the precipitation and scaling of insoluble inorganic salts on metal surfaces, and maintain good heat transfer effects in metal equipment. Sodium tripolyphosphate(stpp) is an inorganic phosphorus-containing polymer scale inhibitor.
In cooling water treatment, the most commonly used inorganic phosphorus-containing polymer scale inhibitor is sodium tripolyphosphate. Adding a small amount of polyphosphate to water can destroy the normal growth of CaCO3 and other crystals, thereby preventing the formation of CaCO3 scale. The anti-scaling mechanism is mainly through partial functional groups in the molecule or electrostatic force adsorption on the active points on the crystal surface, so as to slow down the growth of the crystal, so as to keep the crystal in a microcrystalline state and increase its solubility. This anti-scaling mechanism makes the agent have a threshold effect.
